Lightning as start page in Thunderbird

How do I set Lightning as the start page in Thunderbird? There seems to be no option to do this.

mozillaZine.org

As a general question not specific to the portable version, this is best asked at mozillaZine.org.

This has everything to do

This has everything to do with Portable Thunderbird and nothing to do with Mozilla since it is you who has altered the startup characteristics of the program. If protocol is more important than simply answering a question, so be it Mr. Holler. Or just say that you don't have an answer. That will be just fine. I'll look elsewhere.

Huh?

Before a bunch of folks get offended by your last comment,
perhaps you should explain to those not in the know,

What Lightning is?
Its role as a "start page" in ThunderBird?

I'm sure most of us know what a start up/home page is in a web browser but I, at least, don't know how it relates to this mail/news reader.

How do you set it in Thunderbird standard and what happens when you try it in ThunderBird Portable?

I don’t mean to offend

I don’t mean to offend anyone, however I was taken aback by the mod’s locking of my post and protocol insult since it has everything to do with Thunderbird Portable. In Thunderbird there is the option of setting the start page (check options) to one of your choice. To set the calendar (Lightning extension) as your start page, you add “-calendar” to your desktop shortcut. This does not work with the portable version since start up is different. I thought this would be a simple question, answered simply. If anyone cares to tackle it, I would appreciate it. I am sure there are others who would like to have their calendar open with their mail.

Did you check

the readme in \PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Other\ThunderbirdPortableSource?
There it says:

The AdditionalParameters entry allows you to pass additional
commandline parameter entries to Thunderbird.exe.
Whatever you enter here will be appended to the call to thunderbird.exe.

So you can specify parameters (like -calendar) via ini.
Do that.
Copy the ini into the folder where ThunderbirdPortable is in.
It will work.

Thanks for your attention.

Thanks for your attention. Yes, I did try that thinking that it should work adding (ThunderbirdExecutable=thunderbird.exe-calendar). But instead up flashes an error message "thunderbird.exe-calendar was not found". Perplexing.

Duplicate

So why didn't you just reply here with that information rather than creating a duplicate topic (which clutters the forums and is considered bad form)? I locked your duplicate topic because it was a duplicate.

Now, about your question, do NOT change the ThunderbirdExecutable line in the INI. JUST change the AdditionalParameters line to be -calendar.

I created a duplicate topic

I created a duplicate topic because the way you replied to my original one led me to believe (you thought) that this was not a Portable Thunderbird problem—which it is. Had I known I was committing a forum crime, I would not have done it. I was attempting to repost in proper protocol. I have beat myself silly to atone for my error. If you like, i will rip off my thumbnail or sit on a spike. You choose.

Now, about your answer, I have changed the line in the .ini file to “AdditionalParameters=-calendar” and it still does not work. What’s the problem? Have you installed the Lightning extension to test this? And, yes, the .ini file is in the proper folder.

old switch

The -calendar is an old switch specifically for the calendar extension or the calendar component within Mozilla. It may not work with Lightning. I'd actually heard it does not.

And, nix the sarcasm.

You'd think people would be more appreciative of others volunteering to help them for free in their spare time.

John, I appreciate your hard

John, I appreciate your hard work and dedication. It has been a boon to us all. I think you may be too close to it all. Maybe a vacation on the beach may help. Or, if that is not an option, turn your TIVO to Comedy Central. You need to lighten up. You are taking me much too seriously.

If the start page does not work with Lightning, then there is nothing we can do. Thanks for sharing what you have heard.

Weired

I installed the lightning extension to my TBPortable and added the -calendar switch to the ini and put the ini in the /PortableApps/ThunderbirdPortable folder and it came up with the calendar in the lower left corner.

try this

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/faq.html#startup

You can modify this exe:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -calendar

And use that as the and target for you to click on and put it in the PAM or whereever you load your portable apps in. John made something similar for me with the address book.
