Hi, PortableApps are nice, thanks!
I have two problems to report.
(1) I installed PortableApps and Chrome Portable in my Windows 11, use some days.
When I switch OS to my Windows 10 on the same PC(on another disk partition),
When I launch Chrome Portable, It prompt me that some config will be reset.
and I have no other choice, I clicked reset, then I lost all opened tabs and passwords...
This problem is confusing me, please resolved it if possible.
P.S. Firefor portable has no this problem, It works fine on both my Windows 11 and Windows 10 OS
(2) I saw there are two Chrome Portable versions: x64 and x86(no this mark),
Can this two versions merged into one package just like Firefor portable.
You must log in to properly use Google Chrome on any device these days. If you don't, you lose a ton as you move PCs. If you don't on your own PC, even if you back up your settings, if your PC dies, you can't restore that backup to any other PC, it'll just reset everything. This is the way Chrome is designed by its developers: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable#app-notes
Eventually 32 and 64-bit will be merged but it'll take me rewriting a chunk of the portable launcher for it.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks John!
I got the Chrome developers' design intent by your explain, sorry for my miss of the App info of Chrome Portable.
And let me report another question and confirm with you, thanks.
In my Windows 10, I logined in my Google account, synced data.
In chrome://version/, I saw the Profile data folder is E:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable,
Other info below:
Command line: "T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable64\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe" --user-data-dir="T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable64\Data\profile" --disable-features=PrintCompositorLPAC --disk-cache-dir="C:\Users\niu\AppData\Local\Temp\GoogleChromePortable" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end
Executable: T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable64\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe
Profile: T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable
Then I execute set as default browser in Chrome settings. and Windows settings - Default Apps poped up,
in Web browser selection, I selected Google Chrome.
Then I test by a URL shortcut file on disk, I double clicked it, Google Chrome launched,
But, but the Google Chrome profile is not the default one which I logged in account and synced data.
I saw the profile is different:
Command line: "T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable64\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --single-argument http://www.github.com/
Executable: T:\Papf\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable64\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe
Profile: C:\Users\niu\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
John, Do you know how to adjust (such as change Registry) to let Chrome use the GoogleChromePortable64\Data\profile when it launched as Default Browser? Thanks.
I also saw the profile folder is "C:\Users\niu\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default" as I run Chrome Portable x64 as default browser,
If I run Chrome Portable x86 as default browser, maybe it also use the x64's profile folder, maybe will have some conflicts.(I did not test it yet)
