Maybe it's a general issue, but it seems to happen especially with Firefox.
Some of their updates are critical yet it can take more than a week between the time PA writes "mirroring..." until they're downloadable.
Even more so, Firefox is very intrusive in promoting new releases. So this means constantly shutting off their notifications for over a week.
So I've started recently to just browse to https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C... and download from there as it's always there the minute PA states "mirroring...".
Could you explain?
Firefox, Thunderbird, and SeaMonkey are unique in that they have individual language downloads. All other apps have all languages embedded in a single download. I build 39 packages of Firefox Portable. This takes quite some time to build followed by about 30 minutes to upload the resulting 5.5 GB of files on my fastest-available home internet (900 down / 40 up at present). Then it takes about 20 minutes for SourceForge to mirror those files out. When Firefox is released, it's on a Tuesday when Stable, Beta, Dev, Nightly, ESR, and Legacy 115 are all posted at the same time. Beta, Dev, ESR, and Nightly are done as the 12 most popular languages as they are far less likely to be downloaded. Legacy 115 is 39 packages totaling 4.6 GB.
After that whole process, I work on the release and go through and verify the SHA256 hashes for both the website and updater database before officially releasing it. That takes a bit of time, too, especially over those same 6 channels. And I've been laid up this week while the 'crud' going around NYC has me trying to hack up a lung. I recommend avoiding it if you can.
I'm working on catching up, switching to a faster PC for building, and having more planned availability.

When you write the status "mirroring" In the Outdated thread, does it mean something else then? Because as stated mirroring takes 20 minutes, but when the status is "mirroring" it can take more than a week for auto downloads.
Also, is there any kind of automation that might help you with any of this?
But in any case, if I can go and manually download the relevant variation on SourceForge, why shouldn't it just automatically download in the Platform app?
By "crud" do you mean this article? Hope you'll feel better!
hi lwc,
'availability' is the word. if you read here regularly, you would hear john has not so much time, he is much behind and there it means this step is actual... not only the technical time. hope helps understand.

Mirroring is kinda a catch all. It encompasses the time it takes to upload (30m) and then mirror (20m) as well as me getting availability to then confirm everything and then update the database and site and post the news story. Those last bits are sadly not very automated yet. The build process is, though I have to keep my computer logged in and unlocked (joys of security tokens making things less secure) so I don't set builds to happen while I have to run errands and such.
The crud seems to just be the flu. And I got the vax so it's not too bad at least. Whooping cough aka pertussis has made a comeback due mostly to anti-vaxxers. There are certain religious conclaves in NYC that are anti-vax. I got my TDAP booster last year so I'm good.
My availability was off the last few months due to some illnesses and deaths and things. Still catching up.

Once I can go and manually download the relevant variation on SourceForge, why shouldn't it just automatically download in the Platform app?
it's final release when story and download here, there (EDIT SourceForge) is earlier before release. it was explained here. thanx

As mentioned above, after it has mirrored, I still need to get the SHA256 hashes into the updater database and into the website and verify them, confirm the download availability, then publish both and put together the release story. This process is mostly manual at present.

Assuming the English version is used much more than the other versions, how about doing it first including all steps, and only then start with the others? Even if means giving it to Platform users before website users, it will be an extra benefit of using the Platform.
The platform is has a single release for all languages. Pushing English first with only that SHA256 included would break the ability to download all other languages entirely.

"streaming..." could always be a link to the SourceForge Firefox folder, so those who want to will be able to quickly download from there what might be critical updates and/or to stop Firefox' intrusive alerts.
The latest version was released by Mozilla in February 18th, and by you in February 19th, nice! May I ask what changed this time?
