Toucan 1.0 Prerelease 5

This is mainly a bug fix release over Prerelease 4, so here's what you need to know.

  • The new progress boxes were finished and should now stay responsive
  • An abort button has been added to the progress boxes
  • Copying file attributes/timestamps should now always work

The files are hosted by Ryan and are here.

A quick summary of the features available is here.

Enjoy!

P.S. I'll send out the updated files for the translators later today, but the current ones should work pretty well.

*Update* 19:02 06-06-2007: There are some new files up the remove an annoying message box *Update*

Cool

Hey Steve:
Thanks for making bug-fixes besides having exams!

6 things:

  • The bug with the freezing progressbar is gone!
  • But the horizontal scroll bar still moves to the right if I have a file with a long name and if I try to move it back to the left to see which folder Toucan is currently working on, it moves back to the right.
  • Finally I tested the difference between Mirror and Copy. But as I mirrored a folder, when it was done, I got a message window prompting for OK for every file it mirrored. It were A LOT of windows to click...
  • After I aborted a copy in progress, it showed me "OK" and "Save". Wouldn't it be better to show "Cancel" and "Save"?
  • A nice thing to have would be if I could drag and drop a folder into the field where I specify it for the copy/mirror process.
  • What about renaming the "other" tab to "Help&Settings" or something?

6 things, yikes!
  1. Good!
  2. Hmm, but you can read what it says? At the moment there is no easy way to stop it moving to the right, but you should be able to drag it to the left so that you can see it when you want/need to.
  3. Ooops, looks like thats a little something left over from debugging, I'll reupload shortly Smile
  4. Probably, it'll go into the next proper release (i.e. not the message box fixing upload).
  5. Nice idea, I'll look into it
  6. Good plan, as point 4

Copying file

Copying file attributes/timestamps work for me even when read-only flag set - great, thanks.

Abort button works fine - it would be nice if you could add "Aborted by user" before "Finished" in the progress box for the occasion when it gets saved to a log file.

I recall that you are going to do folder timestamp copying for 1.1. Will that include attributes as you have done for files? If so I notice that if a folder has it's read-only flag set it doesn't get copied at the moment.

Are you still taking suggestions in the "Official Toucan request thread" or would you prefer it here ? - I added one there this afternoon.

I did,

read the offical thread, posting there is probably easier. As for folder timestamps, they are still planned for 1.1, although they are proving more difficult than I hoped!

Steve,Coincidentally I have

Steve,

Coincidentally I have been beta testing Igor Green's shareware Synchronize It! folder timestamp copying. See http://grigsoft.com/blog/?p=55 where he says that he does a second pass to correct the folder timestamps after all the file copying has been done. A couple of other points in the blog might be helpfull too.
