I was given the job of scanning a bunch of family pictures to make CDs for all the relatives. Does anyone know of a simple portable app that will view TIFs and allow for text descriptions? Thumbnails might be nice too, but not required. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I suggest JAlbum which (supposedly) supports comments and you can download support for TIFFs from Sun plus you can burn the Albums to CD/DVD or upload them to a webserver.

Here's an album I made with an older version of the banana skin from the 2005 Summer Cyberathlete Professional League event in Dallas.

PS: The JAlbum app isn't portable, but the pics and webpages it outputs are...and I think that's what you're after to distro to the relatives. JAlbum outputs in XML, HTML, Flash, and a picture format like GIF so it can be viewed in most any broswer. (The Banana album skin uses Flash, but there are a bunch which don't use any Flash at all).
