From the site:
I am a curious programmer, and was all the way wondering on how apps on PortableApps were made. Since Pidgin, the replacement for Gaim was released I was waiting for a while for Portable Apps but I guess they must be busy with the number off apps they have to handle.
So I went and analyze the Gaim Portable sources, read some info on Pidgin official site, downloaded NSIS and I managed to make it work! I was planning just to use it personally but as always I feel like sharing it.
NOTE: This is not me. I found this, wanted to share. No disrespect to John.
no disrespect to John..... but... ETA???
i hate using thrown together versions for my PortableApps.... and since Pidgin's release I have checked portableapps.com every evening for a sign of Pidgin Portable..... sob..... no IM for me...
I thought I was the only one who was constantly checking portableapps.com every evening with the hope of a PidginPortable in the horizon.
PS: btw, thus it was that I found your post, hehehe
The official pidgin site has pidgin portable. I made it and it leaves no traces. I also made a small NSIS launcher for the menu.
I looked on the Pidgin site and couldn't find it. Could you post a link?

I could post it with it already done, if you are to lazy to do it. (With the NSIS launcher)
not that I'm lazy, but could u link to 1 already done? I'd really appreciate it.

I was using the previous unofficial release, the directory structure seems that changed, which files should I keep to upgrade?
Iv looked on this site so many times too.
Can't understand why they havent updated there Portable gaim to pidgin... Why they used a beta version of gaim for the portable I can't understand either, it's buggy and it anoying as hell :/
Well when I have time il make my own portable version of pidgin insted, thx for the link guys!
BTW. is it one person that are making all the programs too portable, or are there a group of people making these for us?

Prerelease of the official Pidgin here.

Simple reason... at the time, that's all there was. Gaim was at 2.0 beta X. The 1.5 stable release had been abandoned and didn't work with 2 of the networks anymore.
An extended pre-release period was done with the switch from Gaim to Pidgin and the stable release is coming this week.

so for us that installed the unofficial version, how to migrate? just install on top of the unofficial install?
There should be a .purple directory in there somewhere if it was built right. Probably in Data\settings. Save that. Install the official release and run it once. Then replace the .purple directory within PidginPortable\Data\settings with the one from your old install.
Note: You may need to reselect your buddy icon to get it synced up.
Note 2: In-place upgrades (installing over an existing install) are only support for official releases.
