FFP Installation Problem

Hi People,
I've d/l ffp directly to my thumb drive. The d/l file size shows 25KB instead of 6MB.
Upon opening the file, a DOS prompt window along with a seperate error message popup titled "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem" with "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. Choose 'Close' to terminate application.".
I've an option to ignore or close the app. Choosing 'Ignore' will only see the dos prompt running randomly in the dos window.
Anyone has any comments to this situation.
BTW, its the same for Thunderbird Portable.

Don't Right Click

Do Not "Right Click, Save as"!

This will not work!
Click (left/main) on the link and follow it to the next page.

I've had this happen to me on other programs.
I'll let someone else explain what the problem is,
but simply put, it's not a download link, it's a link to a download page.

This information is free but if you use it you must support Mr Bunny in his quest for World Domination, after all, he has hands now (If you don't get it, don't worry about it Smile )

FFP Installation Problem

Dear Tim,

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry for not making myself clear.

FFP was d/l from the official FFPE homepage by clicking on the red rectangular 'Download Now' button which took me to the sourceforge.net page for d/l.

I'm not sure if the d/l file was complete or not but the file size sure looks suspicious. Many attempts to re d/l using the same site as well as other mirror sites have the same outcome.

Thanks again!

Try direct link

When you arrived at the sourceforge.net page did the download start automatically?

Downloading ...

Thank you for downloading Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.

Your download should begin shortly. If you are experiencing problems with the download please use ->this direct link.

Downloading from the following mirror:

[Mirror icon] superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net
( Seattle, Washington - North America )

This is the direct link I saw at the page:
http://superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/portablefirefox/Firefo...

If that does not work, I don't don't what to do.
It could have been a problem at sourceforge. I have a modem so really can't try the download myself.
Could it be a security setting, I doubt it but who knows.

Try the link I gave you now and see what happens.
Tim

[edit: Ok I just tried it. It took me to the download page again. I stopped the autodown and clicked on the direct link. This time it was:

http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/portablefirefox/Firefox_P...
This is different from the first one.
I let it download 500Kb before aborting.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your links provided. I have tried downloading them but still encountered the same situation as before.
Anyway, I tried downloading by opening the link in IE and it downloaded normally.
Thanks again.

bad cache?

Sounds like the "bad" file was cached somewhere between you and the sourceforge server(s) (could be local, could have been at the ISP).
