In response to all the requests for a portable limewire, which is not possible primarily cause it's not open source, I would like to suggest Frostwire.
For those of us who don't know Frostwire, Frostwire is an open source Limewire clone.
it is nearly identical in UI to limewire, works like limewire pro(dl from 10 sources simultaneously instead of 8 sources) and also has bittorrent support.
as it's a sourceforge project, I think there shouldn't be any jurisdiction issues regarding making it portable.
as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the frostwire developers themselves would dig the idea of a portable version too.
I hope that ends the portable limewire requests there frequently come.
kind regards,
Johnnyrico

It requires Java and Java sure is going open-source but I'm not sure if they made any binaries and thus at the moment can not be modified until their open-source client is made

true, but there are already several (albeit illegal) portable limewire's flying around on the ned, which don't need java installed on the PC
or the portable azureus, same story.
it IS possible, it's just hard(I think).
the reason I suggested frostwire is because it's virtually an open-source limewire pro and is even more feature-rich than limewire pro.
the fact that it's open source should also make it a little bit easier to make portable, plus there are almost no legality issues to deal with.
on modifying Limewire so it is portable. However, he hasn't posted back so I'll probably just "wrap" it.
