ClamWin: Update aborts

Just installed Portable ClamWin. Updating Virus definition failed. Would appreciate any solution. Here's the log

Could not start process:
".\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="..\..\..\Data\db" --config-file="c:\docume~1\admini~1\locals~1\temp\tmpceelyg" --log="c:\docume~1\admini~1\locals~1\temp\tmpxegafb"
Error: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I would say

Do what it says.
Install a fresh copy over your old one and if that doesn't help, delete the ClamWin Portable folder and install everything anew.

No luck still

Thanks, I've already tried all of that - removing and re-installing. Even tried installing original ClamWin (non portable). The error message remains. Tried running FreshClam from commnad line. The same error message - "This application has failed to start...."

PC

If ClamWin itself won't run, then there is something up on the PC that makes it incompatible. Not sure what that would be, though. Check out the ClamWin site.

ClamWin clams up

Thanks, I'll do that - check the site. Not sure why freshclam won't run. Will post the findings, if successful!

Thanks once again,

Okay, here's the trick that did it. Related to VC8 runtimes. See this thread for details.

Hmm

That shouldn't be an issue as the VC8 runtimes are included within ClamWin Portable in a location that clamwin can find them. Sure you're running the latest version?

Maybe that PC just had a partially corrupt VC8 runtime on it.
