It worked fine on my XP at work, but at home on Vista, it doesn't. I'm using the same copy of the player that I used at work and even downloaded 2 new ones and had the same results. Does this for all of the video formats I tried. .FLV, .WMA, .MPEG, etc.

Works fine here on my Vista Ultimate install on my laptop. It's most likely a video driver or other issue with the PC itself. Nothing in VLC.

I was using the ..08b portable. The ...08c not the portable version, but when I cloned the folder to my other drives, it worked properly on all of them. There is 15 MB difference between the standard and the portable though, I didn't see much difference in the files.

I'm packaging 0.8.6c this weekend. I haven't tried it on Vista. 0.8.6b does work on my Vista laptop.
