I'm using Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and occasionally use Opera Portable as an alternative browser. Today I tried to launch it and got this error:

When I go to the folder mentioned in the error message, I found this:
https://i.ibb.co/cKB2qNXS/2025-03-22-03-34-10-129-capture.jpg
As the first folders in the directory indicate, I was using version 73 before getting the automatic update to version 117.0.5408.53, and before that, version 72. I remember it's been a while since I last auto updated, and keeping it up to date isn't something I was worried about since I only use it for alt accounts on sites like Twitter and Reddit
When I clicked on opera.exe in that folder, it started with the latest version, but without my favorites or extensions:

After accessing opera:about

Very worried that I'd lost my old bookmarks, I started searching for them and found that they still existed in the \Data\profile\data\Default folder along with my extensions:

After making a backup of that entire directory, along with the bookmarks file, I downloaded the latest version of Opera Portable and reinstalled it

After reinstalling in the same destination folder, the browser was fixed, and now I can see my bookmarks and extensions again

This is a relief. I hope this thread will be helpful if anyone else is experiencing the same issue
I'm not surprised you encountered issues. That's a 4.5 year old version of Opera. Lots of things change in between. Often stuff will move around and it'll need to be handled in our installer custom code. But often, that code is retired after a few years. Glad it's working, though.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for your response. Yes, I remember having it installed without updating since the pandemic quarantine. From now on, I'll try to pay more attention to regularly updating my portable browsers from the official PortableApps installers.
