First of all, thanks, JTH, for the hard work and good products. I've just installed OOo-portable, v. 2.2.1, on two USB flash drives, and both times I could not quit the process and disconnect properly. WinXP,SP2. I received error messages saying that a program was still accessing the drive.
The new version will be slow the first time you run it. You need to give it time to finish writing to the drive. Like many apps, it will continue writing even after you close the window. For example, on a slow drive, Firefox will do this for over a minute.
Also, OO 2.2+ uses temp files more often. These files are stored on your device. It deletes them on exit. This will take a while depending on what files you open (and how big they are, how many images, etc).
Keep in mind that there's nothing the launcher can do to prevent this.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Hello Group;
I am having a similar problem on Windows 2000 Pro. I went back to "2.0.4" with no problem. I tried this out on two PC's both running Windows 2000 Pro.
I will reinstall the lastest and just wait a few minutes.
If it is just slow exiting I will let you know. If this is the case John can you not perhaps have a exit screen for OpenOffice saying this or monitoring its exit. I say this because I did use it more then once with this problem. I changed settings and tried the wizards out. There was no activity on my USB. I just could not safely remove it.

Hello Group;
I just reinstalled Open Office Portable "2.2.1" I did so with out putting Java into either the OpenOffice folder or into "CommomFiles". I am useing the one installed on my PC if needed. I am now able to use OpenOffice "2.2.1" and then properly remove my USB with out any messages saying not now try later. I changed many settings and then even used the wizard to create a letter. The same as before with Java on my USB.
I did use the Java portableizer to copy over my installed version of Java. Then I moved the files into "CommonFiles as suggested in John's note on installing Java. I did try earlier to copy the Java files into the Opened Office directory at home. Then I copied the entire folder on to my PC. I could use the wizards. But I recieved a error saying can not find files use original installed path. This I assumed was due to the fact that I copied the directory on to my PC to use OpenOffice portable from my Home PC. I have done this in the past with out any error messages. I will continue Java less due to the fact that I do not need the wizards.
I will continue to try out The latest with out placeing Java on my USB. If I have any other problems with removing my USB I will let you all know.
If you are having the same problem as i had try it with out Java on your USB.

Hello Group;
I solved my problem by doing the following things.
First I downloaded a new copy of the latest OpenOffice Portable.
Second I removed OpenOffice from my USB.
Third I reinstalled the new copy.
Fourth I added the "CommonFiles\Java" subdrectories to my USB.
Last I hand copied the latest version of JAVA into the above directory.
Finally I tried this on three differrent PC's one had JAVA installed the other two did not. One PC is runing WinXP. The other two are running Win2KP. The Wizards work fine on all three PC's. None had the problem of not being able to remove the USB. All three actually ran OpenOffice faster.
I do not know what I did priviously that did not work. But in the future I will do a complete new install with a freshly downloaded copy of any offending programs. Prior to posting.
