USER COMPLAINT: albator

Please remove the user 'albator' and any sock puppets from the forums through any means necessary. He's annoying, and I've been here all of 10 minutes. He keeps posting his web site listing "375 portable apps" on like every freaking thread out there.

If the user evades the ban, recommended steps may include reporting to his ISP; and if that fails reporting the massive amounts of spam to his host so they shut his site down. Retalliation by the user may be met by (again) the ISP abuse address, or by contacting your host and requesting they block the user's IP address.

Bad signature

Yeah, your sig before was just kinda spouted inline, and every time I saw it it was on some thread where someone was looking for an app and I'd see either "XXXX is already portable\n\n345 portable applications..." which looks like advertising. It also didn't help that some of the threads I saw you posting in were you mocking other users (i.e. for their file hosting being hosed) and such; or that just about every thread I read has some 5-10 word contribution by you spit out somewhere followed by 2 more lines of your sig.

USER COMPLAINT: bluefoxicy

I usually just leave idiots to their own devices, but bluefoxicy is just too idiotic to pass up. Just read some of the posts he has made. He generally has nothing to contribute to the thread except crude comments and profanity. He should be removed at once.

Brain please.

This person has no idea what he's talking about. He's basically thinking:

COMPUTER -> (Firewall) -> USB PORT -> USB DRIVE

Firewall is a buzzword; it has a real meaning, but people just inject it anywhere they want to say "protect." If you could have sex with a computer, people would start asking for boxes of firewalls at the condom store.

Packing a portable clamwin to scan the drive would be nice. Protecting it would be impossible; you could, however, flip the read-write pin to read only on certain USB drives, and then scan the machine.

I don't know of an open-source network firewall for XP, though this would be nice too, especially to carry your FW rules around.

Retarded ass.

"So please, help create equality (make it so the rich people aren't the only ones that get their programs)"

You are a retarded ass. Flat out. You're not even worth ranting at.

I recommend the only P2P app that's made portable be a bittorrent client, because it's clearly used for non-illegal purposes (Ubuntu Linux ISO images, OCRemix torrents, low-res Red vs Blue, certain online video services even use it); at this point packaging a Gnutella client et al would result in a lawsuit with this very thread being used to back that PortableApps.com "created the application at the request of a person asking for aid in illegal file downloads."

Any non "retarted ass" would have read the thread enough to know that LimeWire can't be made portable, as it is completely coded in Java.

Justin, you read my post. Yay
Anyway, I agree with Justin. bluefoxicy is dumb.
Also, Albator, maybe to avoid this you could use dashes like my sig.

What?

'Any non "retarted ass" would have read the thread enough to know that LimeWire can't be made portable, as it is completely coded in Java.'

You could make other clients portable, like eDonkey was the one being requested in that thread.

And my point on that post was that the poster was asking John to become an accomplice to a crime, that being the blatant violation of copyright law in several countries. I also happen to believe that people who want to volunteer their time to create great products such as the Linux kernel, Ubuntu, all the open source software that runs on Debian, Firefox, Ethereal, and anything else should be allowed to do so; but nobody has the right to turn around and decide that something someone else put their hard work and financial resources into should be given to them for free. That is like buying a bunch of wood and cement and having a contractor build you a house; then telling him you're not paying him because you didn't cost him any materials, and you keep the house.

And I am absolutely right with "firewall" being a buzzword; I see a lot of people who look at any security measure they want to take and say, "I want a firewall for that." DEP is not a firewall, PaX is not a firewall, an IDS is not a firewall, Exec Shield is not a firewall; you will sporadically see people referring to any of these as such.

And, for the record, I'm probably one hell of a lot smarter than you. Don't fling insults you can't back up; only little trolls and pre-pubescent children knee-jerk to anything they don't like by insulting peoples' intelligence.

It's possible that you are smarter than he (though likely?). Thing is though, he is showing a lot more maturity and patience than you seem to be, especially since you were trying so hard to chastise him with "insults" like "little trolls and pre-pubescent children". At least he waited until you actually dug yourself into a hole. No one has posted any rules that say you absolutely have to like or even get along COMPLETELY (key word here) with everyone; in some cases, disagreement can bring diversity. But using simpleminded, worn-out insults, and calling for banishment for no other justification than you don't LIKE someone...well, that's not really showing your intelligence off to your best advantage, now is it? Though, you might be able to repair it. Did you ever think about talking to Albator FIRST, hmmm? I really hate to steal your own example, but it looks like you expected your problem to be taken care of for "free", instead of finding your own solution...?

Structured reply

I structured my reply to justify my assertions, rather than childishly hurling back random insults. Specifically, I told him not to automagically react to anyone he doesn't agree with by randomly insulting their intelligence et al, as this is indeed how immature children who are incapable of structuring a proper rebuttle deal with anything they don't like.

logic

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were you the one insulting people's intelligence?
You are a retarded ass. Flat out. You're not even worth ranting at.
A knee-jerk reaction to someone you don't like perhaps?
Would make you a little troll, or even a pre-pubescent child?
But maybe you are too smart for logic.

In context

Yes, the 'retarded ass' was a person who was, if I remember correctly, asking John to create an "illegal" program (by legal terms, his creation of the portable application launcher in the context of the P2P software would be the creation of a program, to suppliment another program) and host it on this site. This in essence is a request for John to host illegal software, not by the copyright of the software, but by the purpose the software was designed or distributed for.

This person also has no respect for others' hard work. He wanted to use the software, as he stated, to download copyrighted programs so he wouldn't have to pay for them. This is equivalent to buying your own mortar, wood, steel, etc and having a contractor build a house for you; then saying you're not paying the contractor because the house didn't cost them any money. You don't see any more on site than what they started with, just in a different shape; you don't see any less on their end either. Does this mean you get it for free?

It's a sad state when people can't understand the concept of intellectual property, almost as sad as the overly strict fines and imprisonments imposed on single violations of the laws designed to protect peoples' intellectual property (i.e. $130,000 fine per piece of stolen software/media). The people who own the property want severe repricussions for people stealing it; the people who don't own the property don't see it as any big deal. Both sides need to realize that it's exactly the same as stealing someone's car or wallet or computer, no more (as the RIAA/MPAA would like to think) and no less (as most everyone else would like to think).

sure

I totally agree with you on the excessive fines for people. It think that a better solution would be to make them pay the amount of the software/music/video that they stole.

You do have (some) intelligent and valid points, though it would help the atmosphere greatly, if you did not present them in quite such a caustic way. I really do disagree with addressing people in a derogatory way, and it does not really lend credibility to your statements. *shakes head*

Compaint?

Let me think on this, You stated you have been here for only 10 miutes. Some of us have been here since the beginning and have contirbuted to the good of the community. I believe that signatures are valid things to have in a forum. If a user has a signature that shows a website or blog he is not promoting anything, just giving everyone a chance to see what he has accomplished.

I think that you have worn out your welcome. If you cannot act like a civil human being and contribute to the community, then leave and never return.

I agree with the below if any user should be removed for annoyance or insulting behavior, it should be you.

Grow up.

Deuce, you are absolutely right. I think that some mediators being appointed would help deal with this problem better. John does a great job, but he's only one person, and this seems to crop up more and more, people being disrespectful in the forums. I think that a suspension from posting would be a good punishment for this person. If that's possible I don't know. Stern rules against this kind of behavior should be implemented though.

Me too.

I totally argee with justin and Deuce. I also think that having some moderators would be a good thing as they could also mediate between groups. Finally I think that there should be some sort of forum system so that us older members beome known to the newer members as people who have been here a long time. A good way to do this would be to show the number of posts someone has done and the time that they joined. Maybe that way people would be more respectfull.

I've been around this site since the beginning, and registered 8 weeks ago (look at my profile), and this place has gotten a little annoying because of the infantile posters. Moderators are a must, and I'd love to help out if I could.
