Direct update (Help->About) not working anymore

Since TB 128+- I have a problem with updating TB.
Before I didn't always waited for PA to release the new version.
I clicked on Help -> About and installed the update. After a restart of TB, I had the newest version.
Now, I can update, restart TB and I'm still running the old version.
I can repeat this 10 times and nothing changes.
When I look in to the app folder, there is an update folder where the new version is inside.
When I close TB and move this folder so overwrite the existing app, I have the new version running.
Why isn't it working anymore? Is it a change in the PA exe or a bug in TB?

Occasional Use

It's really designed for occasional use. Not every update. Firefox and Thunderbird's updater recently has been a bit flaky in my experience. On one of my virtual machines, it'll take a few tries of FF updating to get it to work. Usually involving fully closing Firefox and waiting to ensure it disappears from Task Manager and then re-launching. Even then it doesn't work about 1/2 the time.

Best option is to use the PA.c Platform and let it automatically update. Now that apps are caught up, updates to TB will usually be done same or next day. Thunderbird Portable 138.0.1 was released the same day for example.
