I'm testing a new PA.c Launcher build of Google Chrome Portable to test out how well it handles switching over. This build installs to its own directory and won't be updated to the official release later, so it's just for testing.
It removes the no longer functional password handling, adds the fix for history not being saved mentioned in the other threads, separates extensions from the locally installed ones (including system level extensions when run as admin), has an improved default window state, and supports portablizing up to 10 profiles.

A warning about Chrome on Windows 11.
I have seen this post on Pureinfotech at May 6, 2026: https://pureinfotech.com/stop-chrome-gemini-nano-download-windows-11/
Stop Chrome from silently downloading Gemini Nano AI model on Windows 11
On Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1jslb22/optguideondevicemodel_f... there is the tweak:
How to apply a tweak on Windows Registry:
Open Chrome settings and select System from the left-hand menu options. Turn off the switch for On-Device AI

It only exists for some, and might only exist later on.
It exists on every install of Chrome 148 on Windows 10/11 I've seen with the feature available. It's not on macOS or Linux yet.

If the feature isn't available, there's no option and thus if tomorrow the feature arrives, you can't disable it in advance before it downloads the huge file and uses it without ever telling you.
How much space is available on your device? If there's not enough, the option won't be available. The option will show when there's enough space and you're using 148.x on Windows. It doesn't download until the first time a website requests it. Also worth noting that I don't think this is available on 32-bit.
I also don't think it shows up on Chrome Portable for some reason. Probably because the updater isn't a part of it.
If you'd like to have a wider discussion about this, please start a new thread. This has nothing to do with testing the new Google Chrome Portable launcher.
