After running a scan with Stinger a folder with a running version of McAfee security, including at times the firewall application. As this McAffe is not installed only placed one must run the McAfee uninstaller application (https://www.mcafee.com/support/s/article/000001616?language=en_US)
While this is concerning for the non-portable version, it is troubling for PortableApps suite as it leaves this behind. There is a Window XP warning at the beginning of the first open of stinger but makes no mention of this embedded Security software that may conflict with installed security.
Did not mark this as a bug as I think it's intentional on McAfee's part. I have a screenshot of the folder but don't see a way to add it to this post.
The McAfee remover is no-install and takes about 10 min on a 2022 computer.
I remember McAfee Stinger Portable had a note on its page saying "Rootkit Scan Service: Selecting to scan for rootkits (off by default) will result in a McAfee Validation Service being installed to the local PC and then left behind. It can be removed with the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR)."
When it was renamed to Trellix Stinger Portable, this note has vanished. It's a god idea to put this on the page again. And a better idea is to warn the user when running it.

Trellix switched it so that the rootkit scan was on by default where it used to be off. That's what leaves the service behind. The alert as you start it you see mentions this. Today's 13.0.0.405 release now has it off by default again via a custom default settings and will update your existing install to do the same. I've also added the notice back to the homepage.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
It's not just the service (which as soon as i get to a pc I'll check today's) but the entire mcafee suite including running the firewall executable. the warning, in app, only mentions the service and windows xp. thank you for updating the page though. Still love your packaging. will uodate when on pc.
off topic the sign on never takes my password (i have to reset password everytime, no matter how complex/simple my password is)
