John is pretty much singlehandedly keeping the apps up to date, keeping the business running, working to cover the business expenses, and also expected to keep the Platform and other components progressing.
It is not difficulty that is blocking progress on components like the Platform, it is time and money.
The feature you are asking after has also definitely been addressed by John - it is listed in the feature & bug tracker for the Platform, and has a dedicated thread asking for opinions on functionality over here.
