START Menu Alpha

Thanks to justin for giving me v0.5r2

Error

When I launch start.exe I get this error. I have downloaded and extracted the zip file again, I still get the same error.

I get the same thing. The problem is that you ran UPX compressor on start.exe . You can bypass the CRC check by using the /NCRC command line switch.

It's nicely done, but is lacking in features when compared to PStart. Keep it up!

Well I could either turn the CRC check off manually in the script or it would be bigger in size

Edit: D'oh! Sorry -- I posted this in the wrong thread. You should just integrate the two, to avoid this kind of mistake...

Interesting idea.

I want a system tray icon, a better logo for the program, a start-menu-like system with a right-click menu for adding items, and the like.

It didn't save the settings when I tried it... is something wrong? It didn't seem to read the "menu.ini" file.

Like PStart -- right-click

Like PStart -- right-click in the list, and you get a drop-down menu.

System-tray logo is the only reason I use PStart.

Is NSIS really the right system for this? Isn't it designed for installs, and thus not that good for what you're trying to do?

error & crash

I've downloaded and re-extracted the 0.5 file several times and get the same error every time. Wherever I try to add a program I get the standard error popup -"start.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." This is on XP.

First off, I'm glad to be here and eagerly looking forward to trying out the new start menu. U3 and Ceedo, while they have some nice features, are extremely annoying to actually *use* and personalize.

I think i'm having a problem

I think i'm having a problem with this program

At the setup where programs are added all I can do is highlight one of the programs on the list and hit next. Then all it does is launches the program.
Is that what the program consists of or am I not even making it past the install?
I've tried all of the versions and they all do the same thing.

Great job! I really like the 'Safely Remove USB' feature. I haven't been able to test it on a locked down computer, though, since my 'hobby' job, the Library, has gone completely paranoid. Has anybody been able to test if the remove device option works in a locked environment?
