The same problem occurs on both standalone and portable TreeSize Free 4.8.1.
TreeSize Free 4.7.3 worked properly on Windows 10 x64.

It works fine here on Windows 10 64-bit. Are you sure your Windows 10 is fully updated? You didn't set it to compatibility mode did you (manually setting the app to think it's on an earlier version of Windows which you have to manually do at the OS level)?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
1. I have an old version of Windows 10 - 1511 (11586.1177), but TreeSize Free 4.7.3 is worked fine before updated to 4.8.1.
2. I didn't set any compatibility related settings on .exe itself.
