Foxit Reader - 0xc0000005 error message

I have just updated Foxit Reader to the latest version (2025.3.0 Rev 2). A few seconds after launching the app I get a Windows error message with 0xc0000005 code. The app seems to work fine regardless of the error. I use Windows 7 x64.

Windows 7?

If you're on Windows 7 I'd wager it's probably something to do with that. I doubt they test it anymore.

Path?

What's the path you're running from? Have any Windows mods to improve compatibility installed?

I haven't installed any mods for Windows. I stick to the official ESU updates (the last and final one was released in January).

Delete FoxitPDFReaderUpdater.exe

You can delete the file FoxitPDFReaderUpdater.exe within the directory FoxitReaderPortable\Data\Addon\Foxit PDF Reader while the app is closed to make the error go away. You can also delete FoxitUpdater.exe in the location FoxitReaderPortable\App\Foxit Reader to ensure it isn't recreated. It looks like the updater is not compatible with Windows 7.

Also note that the main interface will use WebView2 which, on Windows 7, is outdated and insecure.

Thanks for find the culprit

Thanks for find the culprit of the error. I was able to fix the issue by ticking "Disable all features which require internet connection" (Preferences/General). I had to enable that option despite having Automatic Updates disabled.
If the error won't go away with newer releases then maybe it would be a good idea to prepare a Win7 Legacy version of Foxit Reader?
I don't have WebView2 installed so I think I won't be affected unless I'm wrong? I don't have Microsoft Edge installed either.
