I need to make some fundamental changes to a PHP script on my website.
For this, I'd like to install XAMPP portable. However, I see that portable apps
is currently only offering the relatively old version 1.7 from 2018.
Version 8.2, released in November 2024, is already available.
Is there any chance that portable apps will offer this newer version soon?

We don't package XAMPP directly, and it isn't available in PortableApps format.
The package we have over here is a special launcher made for integrating with an installation of XAMPP on your drive.
So while the launcher on that page is v1.7, that isn't the same as the versions of XAMPP it works with.
Just follow the instructions on the page, install XAMPP to one of the locations indicated, install the v1.7 launcher, and you should be good to go.
Ahh, thank you, that's exactly it. Only the launcher is provided – the original XAMPP
