Hello Community,
Some years ago I saw a solution to install a second Thunderbird-Instance
in a seperate folder (I do not mean the solution as a subfolder as described
here: https://portableapps.com/support/thunderbird_portable#local_profile
and the third topic "Using a Second (or Third) Profile with Thunderbird Portable"
cause this is an installation in a subfolder of ThundrbirdPortable.
But I remember there was a way to update ttwo seperate instances and I installed
these two ore more instance as follows under "C:\PortableApps"
1. The Default install as "\ThunderbirdPortable!
2. A seond instance e.g. in "\ThunderbirdPortableWork!
3. A third instance e.g. in "\ThunderbirdPortableUniversity!
... etc.
All three /or more) instances working fine and as independent Thunderbird Instanses.
But the problem was; If I update all the Apps in the Menu, only the default instance
got the updates, but not the other instanses.
My way was to copy just the Program Folder to the other instanses, but over the
time I had many independet instances (with just a diffrent name) and it was alway
many things to do .... BUT:
I REMBER, THERE WAS A WAY THAT THE UPDATE-BUTTON UPDATED ALL
INDEPENDENT INSTANSES JUST WITH ONE UPDATE "CLICK" IN THE MENU
I rember I had to Name the Instanawa in a special way, but can-t find the topic or
anywhere in the Intrrnet ... Think I had to extend the instanses with "...Legacy1!,
"...Legacy2", etc. richt? In the way as follows, but not sure ...
!
1. The Default install as "\ThunderbirdPortable"
2. A seond instance e.g. in "\ThunderbirdPortableLegacy1" NOT "\ThunderbirdPortableWorK!
3. A third instance e.g. in "\ThunderbirdPortableLegacy2" NOR "\ThunderbirdPortableUniversity!
... etc.
Is that right and what is the exact Exrension to the independent Installation for "Side by Side"
installation? NOT AS A SUBFOLDER IN THE DEFAULT "\ThunderbirdPortable" FOLDER?
DO ANYBODY REMEMBER/KNOW HOW TO DO THIS)
Thank you,
Steve
You can have multiple copies of an app updated by the PA.c Platform by following these instructions: https://portableapps.com/support/platform#duplicateapps
You can rename the titles of each app within the PA.c Platform to be what you'd like and still have the directory names the platform expects.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
