Great Job! Looks Nice.

Firstly thanks!
Now, this app looks different than my first review¹.

Permission or permissive license needed

Since this is freeware, you either need explicit permission from the original developer of the software, or it needs to have a license that permits repackaging/modification, to post this legally.

Can you please provide proof of one or the other?

It's an online installer.

Nothing mentioned in the

Nothing mentioned in the listing.

But I looked deeper into it, the AnyBurn Portable package is online so is fine. The Pro package (which is definitely not freeware, it is trialware) is bundled however which is definitely not OK.

Reply to Ken Herbert

Firstly, this is an online installer.

However, according to your statement, the Pro version is trialware. I have permission from the copyright holder to distribute and use this installer.

As evidence, please refer to the following document:

Confusion sorted

OK I see the confusion. I looked in the repo and saw that you had the executables for each of the 3 versions in the App folder in the Pro repo. It is very unusual to have those files in there since they aren't a necessary or even useful part of an online installer's code/repo, and so I assumed they were bundled.

The Pro package in the listing is still an issue though, even as an online installer and/or with permission. We allow open source, freeware, and freemium software (free forever, but users have an option to pay to unlock extra features), however trialware is basically us paying to host an ad for someone else's business without getting anything in return. The developer of AnyBurn is welcome to contact John directly to work out an agreement, but we don't allow trialware posted by third party developers, sorry. I know I should have led with that in my earlier post, but I've not been sleeping so well this week and I guess I missed it, so apologies for not saying that earlier.

So you are ok to keep the freeware version in your listing, but please remove the Pro.

One other hint for your post. It is better to link directly to the executable, not just to the repo. Not everyone knows where to find assets in a Github repo, and linking directly usually means users can see the full filename, and at a glance know whether it is an online or bundled installer just from the link.

Thanks :>

Thank you for the clarification.

I completely understand the misunderstanding now. The confusion was partly caused by my mistake as well, since I left the executables in the repository, which understandably made it look like they were bundled with the package. Looking back, I can see why that assumption was made.

I also appreciate you explaining the PortableApps policy regarding trialware. I should have checked that requirement more carefully before submitting the package. Thank you for clarifying it and for taking the time to explain the reasoning behind the decision.

I will remove the Pro package from the listing and keep only the freeware version as requested.

Thank you as well for the suggestion about linking directly to the executable. That makes a lot of sense and will make things clearer for users. I'll update my post accordingly.

No worries about not mentioning the trialware policy earlier. I appreciate the follow-up explanation, and I hope you get some better sleep soon. Thanks again for your patience and for helping me understand the requirements better.
