You can't just get wireless

You can't just get wireless internet. You will net to get service, a router, and a receiver for your computer.

actualy...

if there is wifi and you have an adapter (most likely a small range usb adapter) then it should be possible. i use portible firefox through my linksys wireless all the time. as long as you are connected to the gateway over wifi and the gateway is connected to the internet then you are set. but you need to make shure that the gateway is registered through the isp and connected to the internet.

Er....

I keep re-reading the initial post and the only conclusion I can come to is that the person is asking if he can get the internet ONTO his UFD or have an app that turns his UFD into a wireless network adapter...

Maybe I'm misreading this, but it looks like a very obscure request (that is in itself impossible).

Very crazy and possibly impossible idea

How about those Bluetooht devices that there are for sale (I don't know how they work, if they are like those wireless routers or not)? If you use PortableApps trough there you have internet if there is wifi support on the area, am I right (pleeeeeaaase correct me if I'm wrong cause I don't know anything about this subject)?

While Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both 802.x specification, they are completely different. Bluetooth is a Personal Area Network designed to allow several devices to connect wirelessly through a 20 fot radius around your device. You can also chain multiple BT devices to extend the range such as if multiple people have a palm device, they can wh*re out there connection to allow everyone to extend the PAN for everyone.

Wi-Fi or a 802.11 spec or even a Cellular Wireless access is different. They both rely on a Wireless acces point of some kind. A wireless router for most WiFi but a Cell tower for Cell Wireless.

Getting to the root of your issue... Portable aps are nothing more than normal applications that you install except made portable so they can run on Windows based machine. They can run from any location such as a USB HD or UFD or even a CD or any other memory storage device. Simply putting PA's onto a USB key will not make it a WiFi device. You can not put wireless connectivity into a device. You have to add that functionality. There are USB connectors for BT, WiFi, and Cell that will allow your computer to connect to those topologies. Once you are connected through one of those methods then your PA's will connect you to the Internet.

I believe that you are correct in your last sentence. Once you are connected however you connect then your apps will work.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do or say will be exaggerated or mis-quoted and used against you.

Interesting phraseology indeed....

BlueTooth should be called BlackTooth

I heard that it causes health problems. But I thought the topic author's request was pretty ridiculous.
