Some Details

That setting should not be turned on in a portable browser. If you did turn it on, you'll need to remove it from the registry and the Windows startup.

If you'd like Firefox Portable to start on Windows startup, you need to manually set FirefoxPortable.exe to run on startup.

Is Firefox starting when you turn the computer on? Do you have it set as your default browser? Any chance you're clicking one of the little 'more info' boxes on the Windows lock screen? (they open your default browser after you log in)

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I tested this and this

I tested this and this setting is enabled by default in both 151.0.4 & 152.0.1 fresh installations.

Until 151.0.4, I never had the browser startup automatically even though this setting was enabled (I never noticed this setting before, checked in my backups after facing this issue).

After upgrading to 152.0.1, browser started opening on startup which when I came across this thread. Interestingly, the existing tabs/installation is not shown when the browser opens up during startup - it's showing firefox window with default installation view almost like it's a new profile or fresh installation.

After disabling the setting, it's working fine now.

I found a workaround that solved the issue.

First, open about:config by typing it into the browser's address bar and pressing Enter. Then, use the search box to find the following preference:

browser.startup.windowsLaunchOnLogin.enabled

If the preference is set to true, change it to false.

This should prevent the browser from launching automatically when you sign in to Windows and should resolve the issue.

temporary workaround

You can add the following line to FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\user.js :

user_pref("browser.startup.windowsLaunchOnLogin.defaultEnabled", false);

There is no such file. Do you need to create it?

very procedural
the old day was a tonne of paper telex fax email meeting and physical CC (Change Control) for approval
today a tonne of entry in a db and virtual CC and all say yeah yeah without lessening, wrong, they lessen, they multitask

something went wrong going to firefox152
time will tel for firefox154

is their time to work on DuckDuckGo as new PortableApp ?
