No Luck Running PortableApps Menu Under Vista

Hi,

From reading here I know PortableApps menu is supposed to be fine under Vista - but I'm having no luck at all. All appeared to install OK.

When I launch StartPortableApps.exe from my G: drive it just gives the 'nice but useless' Vista crash message ("Start PortableApps Has Stopped Working" with close program button). Event Viewer gives little to go on:-

Faulting application StartPortableApps.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4538cd1d, faulting module StartPortableApps.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4538cd1d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000054fd, process id 0x16f4, application start time 0x01c7ce17c26dd31d.

...and...

Fault bucket 474647508, type 1
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: None
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: StartPortableApps.exe
P2: 1.0.0.0
P3: 4538cd1d
P4: StartPortableApps.exe
P5: 1.0.0.0
P6: 4538cd1d
P7: c0000005
P8: 000054fd
P9:
P10:

Any pointers where to dig next..?

Thanks,

Martin

Start it directly?

That usually only happens if it's corrupted. It works under Vista just fine.

Try starting X:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe directly.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Ah, running

Ah, running PortableAppsMenu.exe directly worked. Although some applications then failed to run, one in particular sounded corrupt. So wiped the memory stick and started again, this time with just the Base edition (was previously using Lite edition). This now runs OK, and have also successfully added Firefox portable.

Thanks for the quick response.
