I didn't install Firefox right away after downloading it but saved it to the flash drive. From Portable Apps I click on "Explore" then click on the PAF executable gets about 1/10th done and runs into errors saying certain files (such as Firefox.EXE) can't be found. I'm installing to the default directory and not running Firefox.
Think I need to erase my existing Firefox directory and start fresh?

Why not use the "Install New App" option in the PAM menu, then it all gets done for you.
I did similar and the installation was fine, no need for me to delete old directory.
Try it, if the same fault then suggest you redownload the .paf.exe file and restart
