Hi @ all,
First and since I'm new here I like say "Respect!" and "Thanx!" to all being involved in developing this amazing PortableApps thing here.
Hard to describe HOW OFTEN this whole idea, menu and appz have been a massive help getting things done concerning job, education and home! Plus I really love this website here: clear, fast, userfriendly ... just perfect
To my question:
I often use miranda and thunderbird portable to stay in contact with friends, family and music related contacts (play in a band). Wearing lotsa apps on a fast usb flash drive around to use the suite with diverse computers at home, school and on the road, I just wonder if there is a chance to password protect the mails I saved on the stick. Tried google but couldn't find help. For thunderbird it seems to be a compatibility issue as I read @ mozilla org. I tried to include the relevant files in a password protected zip container, but 1 time I opened thunderbird without having unzipped it first, I lost data and It took a while to find out how to regain ...
On my search I found many other users looking for the same solution: to protect thunderbirds private data from the profile in case they loose or forget the stick anywhere.
So thought to ask my gurus of portable apps if they know a solution, or just leave it here as a suggestion
Thanks in advance and sorry for my weird English, hehe, I'm just a Kraut

I only use Thunderbird, but I think the only way to prevent people from reading your mail is to encrypt it (GPG).
And don't worry, I am a Kraut too (from Gremany/Swizerland).

Hi Simeon,
yes I also thout about this way, but found no chance to make thunderbird encrypt stored mails and contacts.
Only way for mails I guess is to send all mails using pgp to my own mail account ... not really practicable - isn't it?
Another idea would be to include the profile directory into a pw protected zip or so. But this needs solution to hinder thunderbird from opening. Maybe like this:
Whenever anyone tries to open thunderbird on my stick, there should be a password query popping up first. Then enter pw and let the zip be extracted. Then thunderbird should open ...
I don't know wether it can be done with a script or so - can it? I have no clue about writing scripts to implement such thinks.
For most cases like forgetting the stick on the notebook in the classroom or having a barrier at home (family) a simple pw protection would be better than nothing, I don't really need hardware stressing algorithms over 64 bit.
