Ahh

No wonder I've never seen it, I've got shadows turned off in XP keep your eyes open R24 has an option to turn off the shadow in the theme.ini, but it only takes effect after restarting the program (I could have asked about forcing a restart when loading a theme if the shadow option is different from the last them, but got lazy)

What can I say, we're

What can I say, we're visiting my girlfriends sister, and the two of them went shopping this afternoon so I had some time to work in it (nice to be able to remote in to my VM and work from anywhere) And I finished after she nodded off tonight.
Think I've got the bugs fixed, except for the snap to screen not working if the taskbar is at the top of the screen, and this is a bug in the language not in the program so Blum

Oh and on a side note, theme creators may want to check out the comments on the Info Page.

Help! With R22 & R23 one of my applications disappeared

Hello,
the PAM Mod was THE menu for me, but after I downloaded R22, my first favourite application, EssentialPIM Portable (http://www.essentialpim.com/download/essentialpimproport2.zip) DISAPPEARED. No way to bring it back to the Menu. The same was with R23. When I switch to R21b, the EssentialPIM is back.
There was said here, that PAM MOD stores some data in a DB. Where is it? Should I delete it?
Any advice?
Many thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm going to prepare the Czech translation as a .locale file. Coming soon, maybe tomorrow...

Is it possible you

Is it possible you accidentally 'hid' the essentialpim icon? While in r22 or r23, go to 'Options - Unhide Apps' in the right side menu. You will have to rehide any apps you had intended to hide.

Not quite accurate

When you 'unhide' apps all it does is temporarily show all apps, the the apps are still flagged as hidden, so to make an app visible all the time right click on the app and turn off the Hide App option then turn Unhide Apps back on in the option menu.

Very Nice!

I love the collapsible categories feature, very nice! Every iteration of the PortableAppsMenu gets better and better. I have had no problems with R23 yet, only praise for the new features!

Lightning fast ...

the bugs of 22 are fixed. Amazing.
We wish commercial or shareware developers would react that way.

Absolutely bad to the bone!

Thanks man, you have just added the last feature I was really REALLY wanting for this menu! The categories. I can't thank you enough! No problems at all here. Well, except I can't find a theme I like better than the Rolled Blue one that supports the eject script, but thats not your fault Smile GREAT work. That eject script works so well too.

Some nice themes there

But the ones I like seem to not be compatible with this PAM Mod. I liked the NeoRame Crystal Style one and the ZarthWork Theme .:REMAKE: ones. Any way to make them compatible? Even better, could they be modified to work with the eject script?

Thats odd, I unzipped both

Thats odd, I unzipped both of those archives and copied the folders to the themes folder, it showed up but when I selected it the menu said it was installed incorrectly and loaded the default. This is how I have installed all the themes.

I am using R23 of the menu at the top of this thread.

When "Create new category" window comes up, it asks to type the application's new name. Shouldn't it be the category's name?

Ah Ha!

Someone didn't install the new locale files along with the menu program.

Yes it's a minor bug in the language loading routine (fixed in 23b) I suppose I should try the program with NO language files and see what else is mislabeled..

It happens, I did the same with CAFE (not installing the latest locale file).

PAM Mod R23

It is great. It the problem seems to be fixed.
Feature suggestion: add a scroll bar. So instead of having to press the button 50 times you can just pull down to the app.

Looking at it

But don't hold your breath, it can be done, but it will take quite a bit of finagling .
In the mean time, you can hold down the button to autoscroll.

Awesome! I seem to be the

Awesome!

I seem to be the only one with a problem though:

The Eject script does not work with the RemoveDrive app anymore. It did in R21B but not in R22 and R23. The RemoveDrive.exe is initialized but hangs immediately after the start. In R23 (with a new .ini created before running the script) it seems to be unable to finish the check for open handles on the stick... In R22 it found several open handles (all PAM) but then ended in an endless loop while trying to close these...

What files does it have open?

I can't duplicate it, but what I am going to do is add an internal function to exit and run that the eject button can be linked to that will close the menu then the last thing it will do is execute the item in the PathToApp field.

It does not show open

It does not show open handles as it freezes the moment it checks for them. But there are definitely no files open besides those of PAM...

I will check if my RemoveDrive.exe got corrupted somehow...

Coming soon

I'll shortly be releasing R24, I've been working on it this afternoon while babysitting, which really means I've been sitting on the deck with my laptop avoiding dogs, frisbees and other flying items (yes one of the dogs seems to be able to fly, came over the deck railing chasing the frisbee) I got relegated to the deck after twisting my knee on the trampoline.

Anyway I've added the special exit custom button which executes its app as the very last thing before the menu is closed. Captioned custom buttons, adjustable margin on current buttons (music video etc) An option to turn off the menu shadow in the theme file (only takes effect after program restart) streamlining of the theme loading code (to much repetitive code for my liking)
Changed the execon exit code so the menu saves it's data before executing those apps. Fixed a loading bug (shadow displayed before apps were loaded so if you had a lot of apps you'd see this weird shadow long before the rest of the menu displayed)
And the font size bug (large fonts wasn't kept properly) and maybe if I can figure out whats wrong with the current code Category renaming.

Theme.ini

Can I add text as well as icons so that it appears just like the Help or Search? I know that I can add a button (like the eject), I'm just not sure about the text.

Nope, pure images

You can however create an image that has the text in it.

(the custom buttons are Timage type in Delphi, I may look at adding another custom button type thats the same as the existing buttons, that way you'd also get the rollover effect you get with them, but it's not priority)

Great Upgrade

I just used a small + for the collapsed menu icon and a small - for the expanded menu icon. I also changed the sub-menu offset to 15. I have been waiting for this MOD! You rock!
Also, about the scroll bar thing: My mouse has the middle scroll wheel and it works great, no need to use the scroll bar at all. And anyway, now that you can make sub-menus, you can reduce the number of items so there is no need to scroll at all!
My sub-menus:
Photo Editing - has 9 items under it
Media Editors/Players - has 7 items
PC Utilities - has 12 items
Text Tools - has 4 items
Open Office - has 6 items
Games - has 12 items

How to set up Categories

I've installed your program (Portable Apps Menu Mod R23) but I can't figure out how to do Categories. I must be missing something.
Can you put me on the right track?
Thanks

Just right-click an app,

Just right-click an app, category, add category. Name it Games. Right click on one of your games, category, and select games. It will now appear under the Games category. Do that as many times as you want. It works great!

Thanks for your info. I had installed incorrectly and the category option wasn't showing up. So your info allowed me to correct and now I'm using categories.
Terrific:)

Trivial bug? in category display

I added a category "Audio & Video"

and it displays as "Audio _Video"

I really like the way you have implemented sub-folders as categories. Just a thought - it would be nice to be able to rename a category.

Not a bug

The '&' is for the underscore of the next character (the blank space in your case). simply type '&&' (without quotes), will be shown as &.

It's a standard windows thing

An & is normally an indicator for a shortcut key, (&Ok means 'Alt+O' will trigger item, this will actually work in the menu, if you rename say "Mozilla Firefox" as "Mozilla &Firefox" you can then use ALT-F to start Firefox when the menu is active.
If you really want an & in your label, put two of them together so to get Audio & Video you would use "Audio && Video".

Renaming is coming, It was causing me all kinds of grief so I put it aside for the moment.

Sweet.

Custom shortcut keys, that's AWESOME.

P.S. On a side note, this menu is extremely awesome, I've don't have time to read all the 50 000 comments on it, but would it be possible for Name.pafdata to be stored in Executable Directory\Data and have that folder created if it doesn't already exist, this way it can be backed up, and it's hidden.

Sorry if something like this was already mentioned, I don't wanna read it all. Blum

Hmmm....

I had thought of that, but was worried it would break other menus, I just rememberd I WAS going to set the hidden attribute on the pafdata file, but never got around to it.
Does the original PAM use pafdata? I guess I should check.
I was also thinking about saving my fsi and fsa (App DB) files to the PortableAppsMenu Data directory.
