Sync Desktop and Portable

Hello All. I'd like to be able to sync between my Desktop and my flash drive so that I always have the same information on both. Please can someone advise me? Thanks

More specific

I'm actually looking to sync the settings, book marks, saved passwords history between my desktop and portable firefox. For example...if I do some browsing and saving on each individually, when I sync them, I want the new information from each to be sync'd up.

Ahh

It's about Firefox...
There is an extension which can do that. I don't know about its portability.
Maybe someone else does???

Thanks, however...

Thanks, however, that is a backup utility, and not a sync program...if I make changes independent of the desktop and the thumb drive, I want all the changes to update to each other

Bookmarks Sync

You probably don't want to sync everything. If you ever check that little button that says "Remember my login" when you login to your bank, you don't want that on your portable device in case it is stolen.

I have been synchronizing my bookmarks with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2367 and it's predecessors for a long time. It works with both the desktop and portable versions of FF. It puts your bookmarks on an FTP or WebDAV site that you choose. I put mine on a server at work. With a few helper files you can even make your xbel.xml file into a pretty list of links accessible from any web browser.

SyncToy

Microsoft SyncToy works for me.

All you have to do us set it to synchronize:

C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR_USERNAME]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[EIGHT_RANDOM_CHARACTERS].default\

and

[THUMBDRIVE_LETTER]:\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\

Have you tried Foxmarks?

I've been using Foxmarks (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410) for a while. The down side is that it relies on an external server to store your bookmarks. But, it works very well at keeping all of my multiple computers in sync.

However, it only stores bookmarks, no passwords or browsing history.

Google Sync for Firefox

Try the Google Sync plugin. I use it and it works great. I love it.
