When performing various actions using Firefox Portable, the program lags behind the actions. For example, when typing into a form, it will occasionally hang and not display any further text entered, and then about 1-2 seconds later, show all the text entered instantly. This behavior also occurs when scrolling through a page, it will hang, and then instantly move to where you've scrolled to. Other examples are:
Cursor not changing when hovering over a link or text
Outline of navigation buttons (back, home, etc) not appearing when hovering
I can still perform actions as if everything was working properly, for example if I click the back button twice eve though I won't see a graphical change in the button, the browser will be two pages back when it catches up.
I haven't experienced this with any other portable apps, so I would think it is Firefox specific.
Thanks
Marcus
Have you tried these performance tweaks?
I turned off the session restore, cache, and anti-phishing, but I like the features of history and especially form saving. I don't normally use Firefox in a non portable environment, but I would assume it has no such lagging behavior. I am using a 1gb USB 2.0 flash drive in a USB 2.0 port so I would assume the read/write speed shouldn't be an issue. Any other ideas?
You should temporarily disable history and form saving to see if either feature is causing the slowdown. If the lag persists, there are further suggestions in this thread.
Not using any extensions that do session saving are you? Like TBE?
FFP works well even on old USB 1.1 drives when you do the performance tweaks mentioned.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I'm fairly certain that I am not using any extensions whatsoever. I know it should not have any issues running smoothly, as is my reasoning for this thread. The previous link by sum1 accurately describes my problem, but I am fairly certain my drive is not the issue.
When the computer is running to much stuff at the same time usually it freeze a little bit, so, I suppose that you're running too much stuff at the same time (Windows movie maker on a laptop is an example, ALONE), or that the computer is filled up with spyware (sharing the computer with a room mate perhaps).
Or even having too much tabs open up at the same time. Even if Firefox doesn't warn you it usually is the reason for my PFx slowdowns.

These tweaks are a blessing, my Firefox has picked up speed!
