[ATTN: John] Newsletter - Can We Get Some People On It?

Many of you have signed up for the newsletter, and have probably noticed it hasn't come. I'm sure this is just because John Haller is very busy with many other things. So I'm wondering, John would you be able to assign some people to work on the newsletter so people don't continue signing up for it and not receiving it. I saw this comment which was a long time ago. I know you say things will be released within like a week or something, and sometimes don't get around to them, and I don't blame you. However, since you have a massively growing list of portable applications to keep updated, and you are also working on more, you spend hours and hours in these forums everyday, and even though you may not post a lot, I'm quite sure you are here A LOT. You keep this site updated, throw out betas like crazy, and on and on. Soo.... I think you should create a group of people to start working on a monthly newsletter, I'm sure you will get many volunteers, and this will take one more thing off your back. I will help out with it to, and we can all work on it through e-mail, IM, or IRC, or maybe sometime you can get a page up with a personal forum for the newsletter writers.

I think you should give it a chance, at least to get a format layed out, maybe have a draft worked up, and like I said, I'm sure you will get some volunteers in this thread, so please give it some thought, or at least a comment. I will admit, you are SuperJohn, but I don't know how much you can handle, and we all want you to have a break as well.

Thanks. (and all those interested, please comment)

See.

After 18 hours, you already have 7 volunteers, all of who are regulars, which shows they have time to dedicate.

What's that note on the About Us page that says something about a Community Site? Smile

I could have sworn that I'd mentioned this before, obviously not. Anyway, I'd be willing to take part. I vote that we make a mailing list and discuss it back and forth for the month. If you gives me permission/rights, I'll set up the mailing list and we can start.

Count Me In

Hi guys, I haven't posted much, but I'd be willing to help out too if I can. I'm not a developer or anything, but I've been using these apps for over a year now. I originally bought my jump drive with u3 installed and deleted it b/c I love THIS design better. So, I'm all for it whenever you guys decide on it. ~jkay

That's one tenth of one hundred!

Was my post too direct? Smile

I'll rephrase slightly...

Gee, I wonder if the 10 people who commented on this thread could work on the newsletter for PortableApps.com, hmmm....

Personally I don`t like

Personally I don`t like newsletters much and don`t see much point in it.

Just post news at this site, that`s fine enough.

Ok.

Don't sign up. Smile A lot of people don't wanna check the site regularely, or they forget to, if they choose to have the newsletter come into their inbox monthly, they'll knows if there's anything released and if it will be useful to them.

Hey John, see that little check box on the permissions page? The one under the developers/moderators/whatever-you-called-the-group column? The one under the Simple News module? Check it for me. Smile

Newsletter Update

The newsletter is starting back up (after only a single posting announcing the 1.0 release) with the 1.1 release. It will be a simple announcement in the beginning announcing the 1.1 release, some of its new features, some of the new apps in the past year and some notes about the future. Then we'll be doing once a month, probably the first Tuesday as it seems a good day to mail.

It isn't a matter of content or time, it's a matter of the SimpleMail module in Drupal being a bit less full featured than I'd like, making cleanup post-mailing a very manual process (read: extremely time consuming). I really need to use a different mailing system, but don't know of any that integrate easily with Drupal offhand.

I'm also thinking of highlighting blog posts by developers, etc.

Also, please remove the Yahoo Group as it will not be used. As a site mod, you shouldn't be encouraging people to go elsewhere to accomplish what we're trying to do here, Ryan Blum

John, if you want a different mailing system, I can write a module for you. In case you didn't notice, I have a four (4) day weekend. Biggrin
Seriously though, I can write one today if you wish. PHPList seems a good choice with the Massmailer module, but I'd prefer to hack the SimpleNews module.

Oh, and the Google Group was just to get you listening Blum
Read my Google Talk nickname for a hint Wink
But, I still think we should get community input on it.
