Pidgin: "Appear Permanently Offline" only Presence Settings item available

When I right-click on individual Yahoo users in my Buddy List, the only "Presence Settings" item available is "Appear Permanently Offline". In GAIM it gave me 2 others; "Appear Online" and "Don't Appear Permanently Offline". I've experienced this glitch in both the Pidgin full *and* portable versions. Other than that, Pidgin seems to work pretty much the same as GAIM did. Can anyone offer some insight into this strange situation?

I'd suggest that since this

I'd suggest that since this situation is the same in both portable and installed Pidgin, you would be better served in the main Pidgin world. Maybe they changed it because it was seldom used.

Thanks for NO help...

Well, for one, knew anything of, and/or used, the Yahoo protocol, you'd know that it was a very useful and valuable function; being incorporated into Yahoo Messenger as a basic function since v6.0, and present through all versions of GAIM. It allows you to be visible to the entire Buddy List, and/or selectively making yourself visible or invisible to any individual(s) within that active Buddy List. Everyone I know uses it and finds it invaluable.

For two, there are people, such as myself, who like to exclusively use the Portable Apps version of a given program, ran from hard disk as well as USB. The only reason I installed full Pidgin was to test out the theory of possibly being common to both types, which it was.

BTW, this query is being posted to Pidgin Support, also. Being posted here expands the possibilities of a useful response. A more researched/experienced response would have been more helpful and welcome...

Ugh

For all volunteers here, you'd think you could be a little nicer.

oh, and By the Way, just go back to 2.1.0 if you feel so strongly about this.

As was just mentioned

You really need to be more considerate of the volunteer support you get here.

If you experience the same issue on the full local install of Pidgin, this is an issue with the actual app itself, not the portable version. John will tell you the same thing. We at portableapps can not fix something in the actual app itself, only with the portability of it as it is against any licensing of the app.

Posting your questions here is ok, but you need to understand that we can't help with something that is related directly to the app and not the portability of it.

To summarize, you need to take this up with the actual Pidgin community to get this resolved.

Nope

No, we just directed you to the right place. We don't make Pidgin. We don't alter its code. If you want a feature change, ask over on the Pidgin website. Asking here is just wasting bandwidth. We can't help you with your issue at all.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

SORRY I ASKED!

"BTW, this query is being posted to Pidgin Support, also. Being posted here expands the possibilities of a useful response..."

I am fully aware that PortableApps are a retooling of an original program, that's why I said I tried a full install. I love PortableApps; I think they're the single greatest advancement in GUI-based computing since Windows, and promote them to whomever I possibly can. And being a technician myself, I only post queries as a last resort. I wasn't asking for a feature change; was merely wondering why a long-standing existing feature from GAIM was not acting properly in Pidgin. I was hoping for a more productive answer than merely a "check somewhere else" response...sorry I asked...

Right, but

Right, but... you'd already confirmed that it wasn't a portable-related issue, which means the proper place to pursue it further is the Pidgin support forums and bug tracker, not here. It's nothing to do with Pidgin Portable or any of the stuff we do it all.

The purpose of the forums here is to address portable issues. Not to serve as general support for the apps themselves. This includes non-portable bugs, features, etc. This would be overwhelming considering the number of apps we already make available... as well as the dozens waiting in the wings.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
