Yes, both a software one and a hardware router one.
Both have been setup to allow the connections (software firewall is in learning mode and prompts me for new connection requests and my hardware firewall has had the ports forwarded which msn/pidgin would require).
Afraid I can't help anymore than that as firewall issues were the only problems I have ever had. Maybe someone else may have an idea.
