PortableApps.com Format

John, can we just formalise and finish the PAF yet? I mean, it's basically done now, and it all looks good.
I really want to get up some formalised information on the PAF and publish it so that everyone knows what's going on with it. I've had multiple people contact me about what to do with regards to the PAF, as the only information on it is on the forums.
So, I propose the following:

  1. Make a final set of changes to the format if needed
  2. Mark the format as version 1.0 and update the development page
    • Change the Development page to a top-level book page
    • Update the page with my changes, provided they are still accurate
  3. Announce on forums, possibly on the front page
  4. I (or you) would then write up exact things on the specification and exactly how to use it in an application

In other words, finish the format and put up info on it. Please? Blum
(On second thoughts, I wonder what would happen if someone could finish the format and post some info on it? Biggrin )

Addendum: Cross-post from this topic:
As I see it, the best way to have the development section set up would be the following:

  • Development

    • PortableApps.com Format
    • Developing Applications
    • Requested Applications (some sort of voting would be good, and we would add apps here as requested)
    • Development Team
    • Launcher Documentation
      • Examples
      • Plugins
    • Beginning Development (might include some of the above)

Yep, but it includes everything within, like appinfo.ini, DefaultData, the directory structure and other stuff. It's a developers thing.

Well, the PortableApps.com Format stuff is only something that developers need to worry about. To users, they don't need to know the specifics, they just use programs that expect the format.

The format is having an AppInfo.ini, which contains information about the program and will most likely be used by the menu, and the directory structure, so that the backup only backs up the Data.

However, once this is done, it will be easy to add new pages to the development section and the documentation will get more solid.
