suggestion for all portableapps

I would like to have some option like 'don`t use compression', which means if the launcher is started once he will un upx everything and not upx it again until this option is set.

This is because some apps like firefox seam to start and run significant slower then the local installed ones. Such non-packed versions would be the better choice for usb harddrives, usb-sticks are because of size better with upx one.

uh!

But I read somewhere on this forum, from JTH, that PFF is not UPX... It's slow because it's slow... Blum

and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

If upx or whatever, I guess

If upx or whatever, I guess any tweaks to make it smaller will also make it slower.

The local installed version runs faster then the portable on same machine.

Yep Aciago is right

Mozillas Apps arent upxed due to their license...
Other Apps are upxed but that shouldnt make it slower but faster.
My guess is its your drive/usb port.

I did mean I compared them

I did mean I compared them on same machine, same harddisk, even with same profile.

Clarifications

1. Firefox and the other Mozilla apps are not UPX compressed due to licensing. Anyone distributing compressed versions is doing so illegally.

2. UPX compression *SPEEDS UP* apps when run from USB flash drives since there is less to read off the drive and less to send over the slow USB connection.

3. If Firefox is slow, please follow the steps on the Firefox Portable support page to attempt to speed it up.

4. Sometimes it is slow due to enabling certain extensions. Things like Tab Browser Extension with its session saver on. All session savers should be disabled.

5. If it's not an extension, it's usually your USB flash drive. They all say 'USB 2.0 high speed' but they vary in speed up to 50x due to varying qualities of flash RAM and controllers. The only solution is to buy a better drive.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
