Pidgin: Error Message - error with the switchboard occurred

I am using 2.1.1 on Windows XP SP2.I have connected to my account on MSN. When I try to connect to an accepted buddy, I get the following message:

Message could not be sent because an error with the switchboard occurred:

Any ideas?
