Pidgin Portable 2.2.0 is using a new launcher with a slightly altered directory layout and a different method of making it portable. If you post something else, it won't be supported and the new 2.2.0 probably won't be able to upgrade it, making it a functional dead end.
There is always a reason for delays and jumping the gun and just replacing files is actually very counterproductive. We end up with one-offs that are completely unsupported that may not be able to be upgraded. And people usually call it the exact same thing ("Pidgin Portable", in this case), which makes it even more confusing for users.
I've actually spend the last 3 hours doing an analysis of OpenOffice.org 2.3 (it will be including different default options and I was weighing making help files and UNO-Python an installer option so I had to compare these options and determine if it was worth the effort and extra options for the user... which make things more confusing) while simultaneously prepping the 2.2.0 Pre-Release 1 of Pidgin Portable, 3.0 Pre-Release 1 of FileZilla (which also uses a different mechanism) and updating the new PortableApps.com Installer which may or may not be ready in time for these final releases.
More goes into each release than just replacing files.
