GLOBAL Proxy Settings

Hi everyone.
I'm using PortApp on my flash at home and 3 offices. There are different network settings (proxy servers) on each working place.

I'm constantly changing the PROXY servers for all online applications, like Miranda, Thunderbird, FileZilla etc.

It could be great to create an application which could auto-detect proxy settings (from installed IE, for example)and manage many Proxy profiles to choose from and setup the config files for Online applications while choosing one of them, like:

Home
Office1
Office2
Office3

Name it PortGlobeProxy for example Smile

Have you any thoughts or solvations?

there are some

firefox/thunderbird addons for switching proxy settings like https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/search?q=switch+proxy&status=4
and you can use ProxyGet to get the settings. It´s hosted on this site https://portableapps.com/downloads/ProxyGet.exe for example.
Making an app for autodetecting the proxy for all apps and instantly changing the settings seems to be a lot work....

an adventure

like explaning your local admin the tremendous need for miranda or filezilla on your office PC?..or asking him / her for direct access to www? and, at last, overwhelming all keyloggers and usbdumps during Your personal and of course absolutely secret correspondence? Wink

but for serious, if he really needs access for all apps on every office PC then RossGoodman`s idea of a personal proxy loading the different proxy settings with all apps directing to it seems the most convenient solution.Perhaps one could use the "ProxyGet" app I mentioned above for filling in the local settings into the personal proxy. The use of thunderbird could be restricted by the use of mailservers and the limitations made by the local proxy.
So, if there´s time enough, you can do the programming job
or (I know it sounds less dangerous )first review your needs and maybe save a lot of time.:)

EDIT: I almost forgot: if You can live with firefox and thunderbird alone for most of Your working time just set Your proxysettings in ff and tb (tools/options/advanced/network-settings) to "autodetect".

and could be some settings?

The idea of having another app, even portable is ok... but not what we expect. In my personal opinion it will be great a simple button on portable apps menu where could be change the settings of the proxy, when needed. Should I tell you that are some apps without no proxy setting ..but still need it ??

"Better Solution ?"

At the moment I use the SwitchProxy addin for firefox, it's the tool I use most.

My ideal solution would be, a portable proxy server.
You configure your PProxy to point to the "real" proxy server.
You configure all your prtable apps to point to your PProxy app.
Job done.

I asked a while back but could not find a suitable candidate for a portable proxy server.
