Hello, I don't really know to much about what is "standard" for read/write speeds, what would you guys say is a normal speed by todays standards, just so I have something to go by when I buy a new USB drive.

If I were you, I wouldn't get anything below 3MB/s write, but 2.5MB/s would be the bare minimum for me. 10MB/s read has worked fine for me, but I'm not sure. Try a Corsiar drive. They are supposed (I don't have one) to have great read/write speeds.

Value vs speed vs size.
Really tough call. I would look for something that claims at least 10Mb/sec or more. You will find that he applications you are using tend to become bigger and more complex as you upgrade to new versions. Usually bigger size app = slower speed.
I remember way back to two years ago when I purchased my first flash drive for a whopping $49. I got the biggest one I could afford. 128Mb! I clobbered my boss' 32Mb drive. It was also just USB 1.1.
Standards change. Try to go as big and as fast as you can afford otherwise something will come out within 6mo that will make your drive nearly obsolete.

now is this a mistake or is it talking about something else cause that seems ridiculously fast.

That is a measure of copying files, not running apps or writing to the drive.
