file splitting program

I stumbled across a file splitting program that looked interesting and I thought I would throw it out here.

Program Name: Steve's File Splitter
Web Site: http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000018198

According to the web site it's written in C++

In one spot on the web site, it states the license is freeware, but in the program description and in the license agreement when the program is installed it's listed as open source.

License

The source is included, but there is no license, so it can't be considered open source.

I do have a question, though... what use is there for file splitters in this day and age? I mean I understood it back when people used floppies n stuff. But now?

PS - 7-Zip can split archives into smaller chunks.

.

I'd say the only reason would be if you're backing up a hard drive onto CDs, in which case 7-Zip would be the best option.

I was thinking it might be

I was thinking it might be useful for situations where upload speeds (or download speeds for that matter) are limited when transferring files (like rural people who are still stuck on dial-up). Or I was thinking if nothing else, it would be useful for splitting large files over multiple flash drives or cd's.

But seeing how it's not open source and 7-zip already having that functionality built in (which I didn't realize until now) it's looking less and less useful then I thought it might be.
