I am totally new to all of these, so if I sound ignorant that is because I am. The main reasons that I want to download the portable apps to my pocket hard drive is because I do not wish to inadvertently be infected with virus and spywares from the Internet, and because I often need to use the computer in the local libraries and I do not wish to leave traces of my personal info there. Please bear with me. I have several dumb questions to ask you:
(1.) Do I need to have an external drive specified as a "U3" device in order to use these portable apps features here. Because my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive does not have that specification.
(2.) I downloaded the "standard" version of portable apps to my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive already, however, I was not able to open the file. When I tried to open it, it says "7-zip diagnostic messages: F:\portable_apps_suites_standard_1.0 exe is not support archive".
So, I downloaded the "7z" file to my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive. But I was still not able to open the portable apps.
So, I followed the instruction and downloaded the "resource editor" to both my laptop's hard drive and to my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive. Unfortunately, I was not able to understand the following instructions:
"Now, copy the file named 7z.sfx to 'Copy of 7z.sfx'
Open and patch the file named 7z.sfx thru XNResourceEditor.exe
Dialog - 137 (0 'caption', and 1020 'caption' and 'width')
Icon Group - 159 (delete resource then 'Import image resource' of your own)
Version - 1 ('File description' and 'Internal name')"
Please kindly provide me with detail specific instructions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Henry
Let me be the first to say to you Welcome!
Now, to the questions:
(1.) Do I need to have an external drive specified as a "U3" device in order to use these portable apps features here. Because my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive does not have that specification.
No, you don't. PortableApps.com Applications are made to work only in the drive where they are installed, so, the applications do not leave personal settings at all, even on non U3 devices.
(2.) I downloaded the "standard" version of portable apps to my Seagate Pocket Hard Drive already, however, I was not able to open the file...
The download was probably corrupt. Re-download the file and see if it works. If it doesn't, then go to the PortableApps.com Menu Support forum for extended help.
Hope to have helped, and Welcome!!!

Second to say welcome...
Well, 1st. question was already answered...
2nd. yes, it is probably corrupt... download it again and install from HD to Portable... if it doesn't work, try downloading each app separately.

and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
