Can I use all my portable applications from a CD instead of a USB Flash Drive?

Can I use all my portable applications from a CD instead of a USB Flash Drive and by all I mean all the applications listed on the applications section on portableapps website, the only two portable apps that I wont be using is XAMPP and Mac-on-Stick, as for the rest I want to use it on a CD instead of a Pen Drive and one more thing how would it be different from PortableApps on a Pen Drive since I would be using a CD-R and it will only write once so I wont be able to save documents and stuff? Is it that I will only be able to use Portable Applications to work on either those files already written with it on CD or else work on/manipulate files on the host computer? One last thing I have all the installation setups of all the portable applications and I would extract, copy and burn it on the CD, will it look for it's corresponding or same desktop version program and configure itself accordingly or will it be like the same application but not sharing anything with it's desktop version counterpart till I configure it manually. I am asking this cause' if I can use PortableApps on CD, I want to write it on a couple of CD's and gift it to friends since one of them has told me it isn't possible that applications can run from removable drives and that too applications like Mozilla Firefox,GIMP and OpenOffice and were also not believing me that it doesn't touch the registry and leaves no information behind on the host computer so I want to write CD's and gift it to them and want to know whether it configures automatically since I don't want my personal files, bookmarks and stuff to go along with those CD's, that would be a rather embarrassing situation. So that's all the questions I wanted to ask and am eagerly waiting for a reply as I am planning to get Blank CD's tomorrow and remove PortableApps from my Pen Drive and start using it from a CD(if that is possible).
Thanks,
Amit G

If an app supports running

If an app supports running fropm a cD, it's listed on the app's webpage like these:

https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#cd
https://portableapps.com/support/sunbird_portable#cd
https://portableapps.com/support/abiword_portable#cd

There may be special instructions on what needs to be changed for it to work. Go to each app's webpage and then look in the "Support" section for a note on how to run from CD (if it's possible, there will be a note).

I am still rather confused

I copied the .ini files for Nvu,Kompozer,Firefox,Thunderbird,Sunbird and OpenOffice as it was mentioned in how to run it from CD then in others like Sudoku,GIMP,FileZilla,Pidgin,7-zip,PuTTy,Audacity,ClamWin and Abiword it was given that you only have to burn that directory after installing it in a local drive onto the CD and it works but then what about NotePad++,Toucan,DOSBox,winMd5Sum,Mines-Perfect,PokerTH,Virtual Magnifying Glass,On-Screen Keyboard,Eraser,MPlayer,Virtualdub,VLC Media Player,WinSCP,Miranda IM,Sumatra PDF and KeePass Password Safe and also the PortableApps Suite? These Apps had no mention of whether they would work from a CD...will all these apps work from a CD as well? And I also want to know whether these applications are to be configured manually before burning onto a CD or do they automatically look for their desktop counterpart and configure themselves and import everything from their desktop counterpart because if that is the case I wont Burn and Give it to friends and have it for personal use only. And yes what about the extension....Sage,Firefox Accessibility,FireFTP and Lightning will they also work from the CD? Please help me out I am planning to get those Blank CD-R's tomorrow.
and yes finally if all this works with a CD can it also work with a DVD?

Well,

I don't know about the rest of the apps but Toucan wouldn't work from a CD, but I guess if there was enough interest I could put something together.

For future reference, try

For future reference, try using more periods and spacing paragraphs. Using commas every now and then doesn't mean a sentence/paragraph can keep going. Just looking at your posts like that is enough to cause seizure or migraine Wink
