Drive letter asigning

I use my portable apps flash drive on several different computers and I use it mainly for Thunderbird email so I can have a full record of all emails I send whether they are while working from home or the office. I run into a problem with my signature though. I have placed my signature on my flash drive and told Thunderbird where to look for it but a different drive letter gets assigned to the flash drive on my office computer (E:) than my home PC (F:). Is there a way to permanently assign a drive letter to my flash drive??

subst

HELP SUBST
Associates a path with a drive letter.

SUBST [drive1: [drive2:]path]
SUBST drive1: /D

drive1: Specifies a virtual drive to which you want to assign a pa
[drive2:]path Specifies a physical drive and path you want to assign to
a virtual drive.
/D Deletes a substituted (virtual) drive.

Type SUBST with no parameters to display a list of current virtual drives.

There may be other solutions, but this should be easy, the only thing is the drive letter you choose would have to be available on all computers you use it on.

B: is usually a good choice,

B: is usually a good choice, since it's reserved for a second floppy drive, and most machines have less than 2 floppy drives.

Oh, and unlike the Unix utility mount, it doesn't work with devices (I tried).

C:\Documents and Settings\backup>subst \Device\CdRom0 B:
Invalid parameter - \Device\CdRom0

XP subst

Associates a path not a device

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>subst /?
Associates a path with a drive letter.

SUBST [drive1: [drive2:]path]
SUBST drive1: /D

drive1: Specifies a virtual drive to which you want to assign a path.
[drive2:]path Specifies a physical drive and path you want to assign to
a virtual drive.
/D Deletes a substituted (virtual) drive.

Extension

If nothing else works you can always try the Signature extension (FF & TB).

Use my Menu with subst option

You can use my Menu and set the drive substitute option.
It uses subst.exe, it will add the drive letter when the menu is opened and remove it when the menu is closed.
I would suggest using B: as it is almost never used on PC's anymore.

I put my sig in the ThunderbirdPortable folder

Which seems to keep it all good for me at various computers, regardless of the drive it gets assigned to when plugging in. In fact, I had recently put it in the Data folder, so it would get backedup when I do a "Apps Data Only" backup.
