SmithTech Portable Menu [PortableApps.com Menu Clone] 1.0.0.72

Add / Remove the apps you want
AutoRun apps on menu launch. w/ optional argument
Exit apps on menu exit. w/ optional argument
Launch apps from TrueCrypt Volume.

Theme Preview

I actually started on this theme using XRXCA's MOD R30, which is what prompted me to add the additional theme options to my menu.
It's not finished yet, just figured I would put it out there for comments and maybe prompt some themers to make a few with this layout.

Limitation of R30

thats actually a limitation of R30.
it actually does span both columns in my menu.
I posted a "report" in the R30 forum, hopefully XRXCA will fix it.
I use labels for the dividers where as PAM and XRCXA's mod use images so I didn't run into that issue.

EDIT: I went ahead and fixed the issue in R30, I posted a download link in the R30 forum.

NOT PAM compatible

It doesn't appear on the site because it is not PAM compatible and I haven't made a section for the MOD themes. Was waiting on the next release of PAM with support for the modded themes.
Sorry if the theme offends you but honestly there isn't anything visible in the theme you wouldn't see at the local beach.

Modded theme?

That's a mod? Why not just release a skin for it? Also, it doesn't offend me, but I'm afraid that others may be. Also, theres no way THAT can be seen at the beach. Also, I still dont know why this asks for admin privledges.

Love the R30 theme ability! Looks like I'll be switching over. Great work SmithTech!

EDIT: One bug. The SPM won't read my theme.ini, and NeoRame has the close and eject options on the top of the menu, so I can't close it.

what theme are you using? I tested it with 3 or 4 of NeoRame's themes and it worked fine.
Also to close it, right click on the tray icon.

EDIT: think i found the problem, posted an update. (didn't increase the version number though, just re-download .58

I added support for the EjectScript.exe
If it is in the same directory as spm.exe it will run it when you click on the eject button in the themes that have it.
For the themes that don't have an eject button, if EjectScript.exe is there it will still run, if you can find it LOL on a "Default" PAM theme its about 1/2" to the left of the exit button.

I posted just the executable till I am sure it is working properly so you will have to copy or save it to your existing SmithTechPortableMenu folder.

just copy the

just copy the ejectscript.exe and the ejectscript.ini to the SmithTechPortableMenu folder.
The script is usually in the theme folder, but that means one copy of the script for every theme.
It made more sense to me to put it in the "root" directory of the app.

Fixed issues:
when switching themes when open from the start button the window would open on the opposite side of the screen above the tray icon.

exit option not working on tray icon (broken in .60)

if data directory doesn't exist on ititial load when creating the settings file it would not create it and threw an error.

if the task bar was taller than usual an using the start button the menu would be partially hidden by the task bar.

changed the way the start button stays on top, hopefully this will help for users who have had issue with it fighting for always on top with other apps.

Questions, bugs in 1.0.0.68

Thank you for sharing your great application!!!
The latest stable version is the 1.0.0.64?
Where can I fond the download link for the 1.0.0.65?
I try to test the 1.0.0.68, and I found 2 bugs:
1) The first prog in the menu appear in 2 line in the some time, I removed, but in this case the new "first" apeear in 2 line :

Should scan on first run

The menu should scan for your apps the first time you run it.
If you are upgrading from an older version, just delete smp.xml and it will think its the first time and rescan your apps.
The menu must be in x:\PortableApps\SmithTechPortableMenu to correctly scan the apps in x:\PortableApps

I just tried out 1.0.0.71

I just tried out 1.0.0.71 and it looks great! Just a couple of things:

- The installer seems to require Administrator rights even though you shouldn't need them. You can bypass it and still install, but it really shouldn't check for that at all.
- Are you planning to add the ability to put apps into folders?

The PortableAppsMenu classic recognise all my 90 programs putted in PortableApps, I created the SmithTechPortableMenu and I launched the spm.exe, an the surpise: in the ScitechPortable Menu appear only 23 programs This is a limitation of the number of the progtams in this starmenu? I trey to use the ver 1.0.0.64 but the in this case to, the items are only 23
What can I do for a complet recogniston of all the 90 applications from the portableApps subfolder?

can the menu be made draggable? and a icon an so on that the user chooses like the portableapps menu?

( i use your smithtech menu because the menu doesnt overtake my drive like the portableapps menu where all your programs have to be in the folder. i like being able to add my own exe's

Added personal picture

I went ahead and added the personal picture option to the menu.
Its compatible with PAM's personal picture
If personalpicture.jpg exists in the \Data folder it will display it.
I also added a personal picture section to the theme.ini to control size and placement.
Smithtech Portable Menu 1.1 make sure you download the 1.1 version, I'm not working on the 1.0 version any more.

Actually I've for the most part stopped adding features to my menu as I've been waiting for dev on the new PAM to start which I am supposed to be a part of and didn't want to duplicate efforts and/or create incompatible code.

Just out of curiosity why do you want it dragable? I would think you would want the menu to pop up near the tray icon when you click on it rather than in the middle of the screen somewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to post a reply.
I think you're right about your comment, i was just thinking it could be an extra feature (but it's not something i consider to be important!)

But a Categories features would be just perfect!

BTW: I think that your menu is much flexible, it has a GUI Preference option, and the user can have it's own apps folder!

I hope that the next PAM version will incorporate your solution/features (and also the Categories version like in MOD R31), is there a beta version which could be tested?
