Firefox crashed, settings lost

I could swear I've seen a topic on this before, but I can't find it. If you know where it is, please point me toward it! Thanks....

My portable Firefox crashed. I had installed 2.0.0.6 and updated to 2.0.0.8. Last night, something caused Firefox to crash and quit. It was very late so I'm having a hard time remembering what exactly I'd been doing... maybe updating add-ons, I'm not sure.

When I reopened Firefox this morning, it opened all my home tabs but had reverted to the standard toolbar, etc. as if I had opened in safe mode. There was no safe mode dialog though. I looked at my add-ons list and the ones that should be enabled looked enabled: the add-on name appears in bold text and the Disable button appears if I click on the add-on.

One of the add-ons mentioned it would be installed the next time I restarted Firefox (hmm, guess that means I was updating add-ons, then) so I decided to see what would happen if I did restart. This time the Firefox start page opened (which didn't happen before) and all the 'new' add-on configuration boxes are popping up!

Do I have to go through and set every single extension again, or is there some way I can reconnect to my existing settings?

P.S. I've noticed that all the Firefox settings in Tools>Options have also reverted to defaults. I hope there's some way to fix this. Doesn't have to be "easy", I'm able to follow most technical instructions.

You backed up your profile right? You could delete the FirefoxPortable folder, reinstall, then copy your profile back into the data folder.

Try this first though, go to this folder and delete this file:
\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\extendions.rdf
Relaunch FFPE.

If that does not work try disabling extensions one by one. You might have a max version issue with an extension that did not like 2.0.0.8.

Life is about the journey not the destination!

Thanks!

\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\extendions.rdf
Relaunch FFPE.

That didn't work; but I'm wondering how it could. What's in extensions.rdf? I have other customizations that aren't in extensions, anyway, but if I took out extensions.rdf how could that restore my preferred settings? I'm curious.

But I don't have time to play with it, unfortunately. Fortunately, I do run flash drive backups in the background.... meaning, I always forget they're there. I'll just delete the current Firfox Portable folder and copy the backup version. That should work, right? I guess it doesn't pay to go to bed at 3 a.m. and get up two hours later. I should have been able to think of this all on me onesies!

But I needed that push in the right direction, and I'm very grateful! Thanks.

Cheers!
