PortableApps Menu

I think that the PortableApps menu should have some sort of icon or toolbar that automatically pops up whenever you insert the flash drive in.

?

Portable Apps is meant to run off the flash-drive, not the home computer. Or do you mean like an autorun thing? If you mean an autorun the best you can do is the Windows Service pack Nag-screen, which is already set to happen by the autorun.inf

There is a tension between

There is a tension between those who want convenience and those who have had the experience of putting a removable drive in their machine and having some garbage installed that takes over the entire machine.

This schizoid feeling is apparent in the way Windows doesn't quite do what you want with autorun. Those who want it to just run the PAM are upset to see the "what do you want to do?" screen; those who don't want anything to autorun (especially not Sony rootkits on audio CD discs that you just want to listen to) think even "what do you want to do?" is a security violation.

Network security people at corporations and public Internet sites are likely to lock down USB ports completely, to keep malware out and confidential information in. If they do allow USB ports, they are likely to disable autorun. So people need to be able to start the PA menu manually.

As one who has been burned by an autorun starting malware when I didn't expect it, I fully support the effort to let people know that autorun is convenient but also risky.'

The point is, PortableApps has done everything it can to allow autorun; if it doesn't work the way you want, blame security paranoia, not PortableApps.

@ the library

All libraries I've been to, as soon as I put in my flash drive, the computer deletes the auto run.inf from my flash drive. They don't allow auto run either.

As far as the no true auto run feature, Microsoft never expected flash drives to have a reason to auto run. U3 overcame this by creating a virtual CD-ROM drive that had auto play enabled.
