DTask Manager Portable Pre-Release 1 (Testers Needed)

App Description:

DTaskManager is a Windows Task Manager replacement. It has many extra features, including task suspension and reactivation, like in Linux, task freezing, multiple process selection, and three different types of task termination: 1) termination request (like "End Task" in Windows Task Manager), 2) forced termination with dialog tolerance (like "End Process" in Windows Task Manager), 3) forced termination, not available in Windows Task Manager (kills any process, including system processes, without question).

Technical Information:

This is a relatively simple app, and only uses an .ini that is stored in the application's folder. In addition, this app is only a launcher, as DTaskManager is freeware.

Installation Instructions:

First, download and install DTaskManager Portable to your flash drive. Then, download DTaskManager from Dimio's Tools here: http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/. Then, extract the .zip file to DTaskManagerPortable\App (for example, X:\PortableApps\DTaskManagerPortable\App). Then you can run DTaskManager from your PAM, or run DTaskManagerPortable.exe.

Thank you.

That's the best reply I've heard on any of my apps :).

Even better.

It's portable.

Why?

Is a FirefoxPortableSettings.ini file in Settings folder in Data Folder? Is it necessary or you just forgot to delete it from the original source? Wink

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

@Aciago

I've never had that when I tested it. I'll look into it. Chances are, something I missed in the source .

Great!

I've been using DTaskMananger For a while (since the school I go to decided students don't need to access the task mananger, which I think is a dumb decision on their part) and now it has a launcher to call it's own. Thanks!

True, but

John said he will not accept just launchers, and that he would only allow complete apps to be fully PAF. So, I'm already breaking the rules :). And, I couldn't do anything with graphics, even if I wanted to ;).

It seems like there are so

It seems like there are so many platform definitions about to be made definite (!) in the next few days or weeks, it's hardly worth it to try to polish something completely. Seems like it is best to just make sure the launcher and installer are working and tested and generic enough that they could be changed easily if something in the Platform requires it. Then when John releases everything, we'll know exactly what is needed.

Sigh. The good old Visual Basic runtime. You can download it from the Microsoft web site, and lots of other places. It might even be on the DTaskManager web site.

It will need to have been installed on every machine you use DTaskManager with.

Is this project staying alive, or will Daphne replace it? I would like to make sure before adding or excluding it from the Test page.

Well...

Patrick says it's still pretty popular, but I won't support it anymore. I'll keep the download, for those that still like the app, but since it's closed source, it can't be considered an official development test. AFAIK, it's stable, but I'm not going to update it to a development test. I'd rather see an open source task manager like Daphne.
