This site is dedicated to using free and open source apps!
Any modification or distribution of commercial apps is not supported here, and unless expressly sanctioned by the vendor, is illegal.
The marvelous advantage of this site is that it proves that almost anything can be done using free and open source apps, without violating any laws.
IMHO, these apps work as well as or better than their high-priced commercial versions.
Try them out, you'll be pleasantly surprised!
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
Use Open-Office, it does everything that Microsoft Office can do (Except Open MS Office 2007, something to do with the new xml encoding in the docx format)

fi you can find on your own time, office 97, it works fairly portable. there is a lot of missing add ons but everything works. this isnt recomended thogh because i dont know if it writes to the registry during portable use and there are a lot of annoying popups whenever you start or try to use one of the add ons.
my suggestion is just use open office because it is completely compat with MS Office, all exept 07 because it is just its own grumpy little self, it isnt compatable or revers compatable with anything exept office 07.

It also depends heavily on system registries (or so I would guess- Microsoft seems to love registry use.)
Which means its a pain. Try open office. You'll like it- maybe.

But it is possible to get a 2007 reader that will let you copy/paste out of it.
I have the installer- if I needed it, I probably install/unistall whenever I needed it.

with OpenOffice 2.3 OOo is able to handle the Office Open XML formats (which suck IMO).
With the doxc format is rename the file with a .doc extension and it will open just fine. I have done it many times.
