Portable apps are a great idea, use on any computer & don't leave traces. BUT, if the host computer uses keylogger our passwords, etc. are compromised. I found one portable keylogger detector, KL-Detector, but very little else. KeyScrambler doesn't work on a USB but they said they are working on a portable version. Any plans or recommendations.
Thanks.
I recently tried using portableapps with a cheap 1GB flash disk. It is very slow - probably because I bought the cheapest flash disk I could find, not realising that the more expensive ones are faster.
The thing is, I'm using a PC with 2GB of RAM in it, most of which seems to be sitting empty most of the time. I'm wondering if there's some way of using the spare RAM as a read/write cache to speed up access to the flash disk.
Hi guys,
I am about to install portable apps on my giga cube but i was unsure of which file system to format my cube in for best performance. Can anyone tell me which I should use Fat32 or NTFS?
Thanks
Hey John,

Ryan said that drupal offers something like that.

Hi!
I can´t remove the folder PortableApps Suite Standard 1.0 from
my computer! In the folder: GraphicFilter is a file called:
fcfg_internalgraphics_filter.xcu
It´s impossible to delete the file, windows say´s the filename is
to loong or is wrong, try change it! But it´s impossible to change.
I´ve tried everything, in safemode, Moveonboot etc but i will not be deleted.
Could someone please help me.
Regards Michael
Hi I am very new to portable apps but see the benefits in them. My first question is this, my icon in the file address line is not of a drive or anything similar in fact it looks like a small square with a red and green dot in it, what is it please? It took me 4 installs to get the basic program to open but i cant get thunderbird to start or load as i only get a dos window for a few seconds.
I have downloaded the 1.5.0.8 version and double clicked and i get is the dos window?
This may be slightly off topic but I couldn't find a better place to post.
Can anyone think of a reason NOT to use a USB 2.0 drive as a swap partition rather than an ATA 7200 rpm hard drive?
Here's the situation I have a machine that has a max of 1 GB of ram that I'm trying to make into a media server. Since this type of server does better the more RAM it has I'm considering using a larger swap file. I figure that since USB drives are solid state memory rather than HD based and they are fairly cheap I would get a 2 GB stick and create my swap file on it.
I found this website with 2 great portable apps (they are truly portable.) One called ChaosMD5 is a portable MD5 sum calculator, great for checking file integrity on-the-go also the second is called Chaos Crystal it allows you to adjust the transparency of a window you select! The latter is great for people how are Vistazing their comp, since most people have no clue how to get glassy effects or something similar! Plus for those who need to have lots of windows displayed at once Chaos Crystal is a great solution.
